ZMAA acclaims new executive
By Fred Groves
T -A staff
ZURICH - The Zurich Minor Athletic Association has a new president.
Last Monday night, Dave Erb was acclaimed as the association's minor
hockey president and he will replace Bud Markham who along with sever-
al executive members recently resigned due to personal reasons.
"To the new executive, I wish you well," Markham told parents and
players during the annual awards night. "You have some big things on
your plate, I hope you incorporate."
Joining Erb will he first vice-president Steve Haberer and second vice-
president Pat Bedard who replace Ivan Bedard and Nick Littlechild respec-
tively.
There were no elections held on Monday as a four -member nominating
committee attracted just enough people to till the positions.
"Don't take this too lightly," said Markham of the elections. "If you have
something to say about the executive, tonight's the night to do it."
Markham thanked Ivan Bedard and Littlechild for their efforts this past
year and also the town contact for hockey, Jun Ramer.
Treasurer Sylvia Smale and secretary Gary Verhoog will continue to be
on the executive while the new directors will be Marty Becker, Ivan Bed-
ard, Bob Brown, Doug Eckel, Don Geiger, John Geiger, Barb Jeffrey,
Dwayne Laporte, Mark Regier and Francis Denomme. The social conven-
or is Bonnie Groot and the rec board representative will be Dan Turkheim.
"I'd like to thank everyone who has donated their time. It's not fair the
same people do all the work," said Erb who is a ZMAA graduate and who
helps run a very successful hockey school.
At Monday night's event, bantam netminder Tim Estep was named Zu-
rich's Most Improved Goalie and reeve Bob Fisher presented the OMHA
Peewee 'E' champion Zurich Storm with a plaque which will be placed in
the arena's display case.
The Storm broke a 24 -year drought in which Zurich did not have a pro-
vincial champion.
They named as their Most Valuable Players, Jarret Jeffrey who had 123
goals and 103 assists in 52 games and captain Brad Brown, the team's top
scorer with 139 goals and 114 assists.
