Spring luncheon at
Emmanuel Baptist Church
By Adrienne Talbot
EXETER - "The Spice of Life" was the theme of
this year's Annual Spring Luncheon hosted by Em-
manuel Baptist Church this past Saturday. There
was standing room only as dose to 80 Exeter and
area ladies joined together for an afternoon of fel-
lowship.
Wendy King opened the event with a prayer of
thanks, which was then followed by an "ice break-
er" game which tied in with the theme of spices and
herbs.
After the game had ended, Clara Vanderlaan gave
an update on the Coffee Break/Story Hour, which
had once again been a great success and would be
resuming again in the last week of September. She
went on to tell about an interim Bible study that
would be taking place the last Thursday of May,
June, July and August. They will be studying the
Book of Psalms. The study will be open to anyone
wishing to join them in an evening of fellowship
and learning God's Word.
Draws were held for door prizes and lunch was
served. All of the dishes had been prepared using
different herbs and spices.
The group was then introduced to the person who
was partially responsible for teasing their taste buds.
She was Nancy Hislop of "A Touch of Herbs" from
Woodham. They were given a "smell and taste" in-
troduction to herbs and spices. The presentation in-
cluded a brief history of old and modern uses for the
various herbs and spices Hislop had brought with
her that day.
The ladies were then treated to a musical produc-
tion of "Jesus Through a Mother's Eyes". This one
woman play was written and performed by Marion
Ford of Newmarket. Her portrayal of Mary in her
later years telling the story of her son Jesus and the
love that she felt for Him was felt by the entire audi-
ence, for they could see Marion's love for her Sav-
ior in her face as she sang and retold the story of
His conception, birth and ministry among the peo-
ple. The retelling of His betrayal by Judas and His
crucifixion at the hands of the Romans caused tears
to flow freely. Ford's face then lights up with pure
joy as she tells us the good news of the empty torah
and the Risen Savior who lives and is coming again
for all who will have Him. The ladies joined in final
chorus with Ford as she ended the drama - Alleluia,
He's my Savior, Lord - I Love you.
As they left the Sanctuary, they went away with
the words to Ford's song singing in our hearts "Be
still for the Glory of The Lord is shining all around,
He burns with Holy fire, with splendor He is
Crowned."
The annual spring luncheon was held at the Emmanuel Baptist Church on Saturday with
the theme, The Spice of Life. Wendy King, left, and Marilyn Miller were two of the church
organizers, while Marion Ford, provided drama and music. Nancy Hislop, on right, did a
herb presentation during the afternoon event.
Megan Hodgins and Marjorie Mills enjoy the luncheon meal at the Emmanuel Baptist
Church annual spring luncheon on Saturday.
