Leigh - Anne Ryan and Rosanne Ryan, both of Lucan show a sample of some of the goods that were available. Thames Road Lightning causes barn fire By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD - Lightning caused a disastrous fire early Tues- day morning that burned the barn of Steve and Linda Johns and many pigs owned by the Miller family were destroyed. Lorne and Pat Ballantyne visited on Sunday with their daughter and son-in-law Dave and Brenda Moran and family of Toronto. Church service Rev. Jim Allsop was in charge of the regular church service Sunday morning. The Responsive Reading was tak- en from the Green Service Book "Plea for Deliverance" Psalm 22. The choir sang "Reach Out" ac- companied by the organist Erin Kraftcheck. The children's hymn "Happiness is the Lord" was sung. Rev. Allsop told the children's sto- ry about "Growing a Flower". The Scripture reading Acts 8:26- 40 and I John 4:7-21 was read by Marilyn Pym. Rev. Allsop read from the Gospel of John 15:1-8 and the title of his sermon was "The Source of Our Life." The closing hymn was "Jesus is Zurich Scouts in weekend bike-a-thon By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH - A spring concert was put on by the students of the music department of South Huron District High School on Sunday afternoon. The singing and hand pieces were terrific, under the direction of Mr. Rohilliard and Mrs. Claessens. The music students are now pre- paring to take part in the National Competition to he held in Toronto from May I I to 15. They will per- form at various schools, attend workshops and clinics and compete against other high schools. They will also he going to see Show Boat. Spring concerts A spring concert is being esent- ed by the Kindergarten class at St. Boniface School this May 4 at 7:30 p.m.. May 5 the school concert at the public school begins at 7:30 p.m. as part of Education Week. Singles Only The next meeting for 'Singles Only' will be held May 12 at the Sot th Huron Diclrici High sch�1 library, beginning at 7:30 p.m. There will be a guest speaker. Eve- ryone welcome. CWL The St. Boniface C.W.L. meeting was held April 19 with Mass at 6 p.m. Fr. Matthias installed a new executive: Past president Audrey Smith, president Mary Regier, pres- ident elect Joan Regier, first vice Colby VandenBoomen, recording secretary Cecilia Smith, correspon- dence secretary Carmel Sweeney treasurer Denise Meidinger, con- veners Mary Fae Regier, Marie Cyr, Henrica Masse, and Sylvia Mittelholtz. Dinner was catered by Richard and Mary Erb. Past president Audrey Smith thanked everyone for all the help in the past two years. Mary Regier, new president, introduced new business. The door prize was won by Angela Watson. President of St. Boniface C.W.L., Maty Regier, along with first vice Joan Regier and St. Peter's C.W.L. president Harriette Vanderburgt and Debbie Denomme, attended the C.W.L. convention held in London last Tuesday and Wednesday at the new conference centre. Also going for the day on Tues- day were members Denise Mei- dinger, Audrey Smith, Marie Geli- nas Sr., Brenda Koehler, Rose - Marie Regier, Therese Stark and Mary Ducharme. Bowling banquet A great time was had at the bowl- ing banquet last Saturday night held at the Hensall Community Centre, with the Ladies league,and Thursday night mixed leagues at- tending. They enjoyed a dinner prepared by Iva Reid and her staff and then had fun dancing to the hand Night Wind. Next year's executive team for the Ladies bowling will be the "Frisky Five" from Dashwood. Congratulations to those making their first communion on May 1 at St. Boniface Church by Fr. Wron- ski: Michelle Denomme, David Gingerich, Thomas Groot, Pamela Meidinger, Jason Regier, Kristine Miller, Ashley Overholt, Courtney Overholt, and Nathan Regier. Zurich Scouts The Zurich Scouts went on a hike-a-thon Saturday and Sunday with Bill and son Joseph Stanttener who biked from Bayfield to join the Zurich Scouts. They then travelled on to the Pinery Park at Grand Bend, arriving ahead of the rain. On Sunday they took part in the Great Ride for Cancer held at the Provincial Park. Happy birthday wishes go out to Dustin Mathonia who is one year old on May 4. A family dinner was held on Saturday at the home of Ralph and Peggy Mathonia in Hen- sall as they also celebrated their an- niversary. Mel and Mary -Ellen Gingerich recently spent a few days in Stur- gis, Michigan visiting with their daughter and son-in-law, Darla and Dean and grandson. May 15 the Community of eight area United Churches are planning a joint worship service for Confer- ence Sunday beginning at 10:30 a.m. with orchestra an sing song. The service starts at 11 a.m. at Thames Road. Guest speaker will be Rev. Roger McComb. Practice for the combined choir is May 8 at 7:30 p,na. at Thames Road. Every- one is welcome to participate in the choir.
