By Fred Groves T -A staff EXE I ER - Fundraising was one of the buzz words at the Exeter Mi- nor Hockey Association's Annual Meeting last Tuesday night. This past year, the EMHA brought in $9,206.02 compared to $17,406.01 in 1992-93. "Fundraising was kept to a mini- mal but that will have to change for next year," said outgoing president Mike Anstett. This year the financial statement does look bleak as the EMHA will put only about $1,500 aside to start next season. This time a year ago, they had $8,220.23 but in compari- son, in 1991-92 had a deficit of over $6,000. Last Sunday at the annual awards day, comment sheets were availa- ble and one of first indicators from those, is that parents are not happy with having Tier 2 for novice and atom. "1t made the competition level for the Lambton-Middlesex teams quite demoralizing," said Anstett. He said eliminating Tier 2 would guarantee a lot of kids would keep on playing hockey. Former EMHA president Sharon Lynn who is the incoming presi- dent of the Lambton-Middlesex League, said how strong or weak a team is should dictate whether or not they go Shamrock Tier 2 or Lambton-Middlesex. "That's why you have some cen- tres entering their second team in the Lambton-Middlesex," she said. Exeter and the other centres have to make a decision on which league teams will go into by late August or early September. Anstett put out an urgent call to non -parents to come and coach in the EMHA. He said a big problem they run into is when a team is se- lected. A parent says he wants to coach a certain level and therefore the pos- sibility of his son or daughter mak- ing that team are usually pretty good. He added that if there were more non -parent coaches, "that would solve a lot of our problems." Increase: The 1993-94 season saw the EMHA grow by one team as there were 239 players compet- ing on 17 teams from pre -tyke to midget. As a result, the ice hill this year went up $7,000. Exeter had two teams make it to the Ontario Minor Hockey Associa- tion finals and while they did not win, Anstett said the EMHA were very proud of them. "1t was quite a successful year to see two teams go that far," he said referring to the Atom Broncos and Exeter Minor Hockey & Area Inc. is now accepting Applications for Coaches for the 1994-95 season Deadline - June 1, 1994 For Information contact Tim Ralph, 235-1124, Susan Maver, 235-0581 the Bantam Lincolns. Also touched upon briefly at Tuesday's meeting was how awards should be presented. Al this year's event, not all teams chose to give them out. "Maybe that's something parents can do well ahead of time...it's a major concern that should be dealt with," said Anstett.
