Love and best wishes - your family Photo by Bart DeVries Sir Nobles of Algarva #168 hold events By Roberta Walker GRAND BEND - The Sir Nobles of Algarva #168, Order of the Al- hambra have been involved in a number of events over the past month. Seven Sir Nobles and their Sultanas attended Order of Alham- bra Windsor Weekend on March 18-20 including a Regional Meet- ing on April 17. Algarva #168 held their annual Communion breakfast, with Mass at St. Christopher in For- est and breakfast at the Forest Golf and Country Club. Over 50 attend- ed, including near 20-Alhambrans from Windsor, and special guest Regional Director Gerry Forrester of Windsor. On Sunday, April 24, 10 Sir No- bles accompanied two Neophytes to Detroit for their special ceremo- nial (membership rite). Congratula- tions to new Sir Nobles Paul Backx and Doug Willsie and welcome to Argarva #168! A special Sultana Appreciation Breakfast is being or- ganized for the month of May, date yet to be decided. Confirmation held in Grand Bend By Roberta Walker GRAND BEND - The Easter sea- son is always a busy for Immacu- late Heart of Mary Church's pastor, Father Paul Beck, with so many pa- rishioners electing to celebrate Easter in a special way by receiving the sacraments. Congratulations to all these young Catholics. Confirmation on April 16 at Mount Carmel with Bishop Sher- lock. Those confirmed were Lind- sey Jean, Jeremy Pickering, Brian Ducharme, Levi Lane and Mike Casarin. Baptisms were Chad Ray Wilcox, infant son of Randy Wilcox and Sandra Swain; Mallory Colleen Ella Overholt, infant daughter of Peter Overholt and Lee Ann Peck- itt; and Austin William Clarke in- fant son of Jason Clarke and Julie Uniac. Communions: Mark Keldcrs, Taylor Britton, Darcy Parkes, Katie Hoffman and Susan McCann. During the weekend of April 16- 17, Father Beck conducted a Cursil- lo - rctreat weekend in Sarnia, and Father Tony Daniels of London celebrate all the weekend Masses. Earth Day service planned By Liz Sangster HENSALL - A special Chil- dren's Earth Day service will be conducted at Hensall United Church May 1. On Sunday at Hensall United Church, a special collection of Ca- nadian Tire money was received for Menesetung. On May 15 the United Church service will be con- ducted by the Gidcons in the ab- sence of Rev. Annen. Rev. Annen will conduct the service at the Blue Water Rest Home, May 5 at 2 p.m. Klppen WI Kippcn East Women's Institute had another successful year as re- ported at the annual meeting held at the home of Thca Wisch, April 19. President Grace Drummond wel- comed everyone and opened the meeting with a poem, "April". Roll call was answered by nam- ing a typical dessert from a foreign country and payment of fees. One lady had forgotten her pin and was fined. Phyllis Parsons and Rena Caldwell gave humorous readings. Reports were given and accepted. The following new slate of officers was accepted for the 1993-94 sea- spn: past president Ruby Triebner; president Grace Drummond; sec- ond vice president Mona Alderdice; secretary Helen MacLean; treasur- er, P.R.O. and Resolutions Mona Aldcrdicc; branch directors Ruby Trichncr, Phyllis Parsons; program co-ordinator Grace Drummond; IT'S A TEAM EFFORT. Spring in Centralia By Mary Peterson CENTRALIA - As you drive through the Centralia area, you'll see many signs of spring such as daffodils; a baseball game at the ball diamond; children on bicycles; and fanners working the fields and sowing grain. Ladies Break Away April 23 there was lots of activity at Kirkton Community Centre as the U.C.W. of Zion West hosted their second annual Ladies Breaka- way. With 300 participants for this all -day event, which included lunch, the ladies were very busy. Many ladies from Centralia at- tended to hear speakers on topics ranging from wills and estates to shoes. United Church Rev. Aubrey Bell returned to Centralia United Church on Sun- day. He addressed the question "Who Are Then the Shepherds'?" in his sermon. Brent Caslick provided the children's story, telling every- one how the sign of the fish be- came symbolic for Christians. Next Sunday, Rev. Clare Geddes will re- turn to Centralia. Everyone is reminded of the Air Show when airplanes will be on display at the Centralia Airpark from May 27 to 29. The Stewards will organize a food booth for pies and baked goods, and many volunteers will be needed. Further details will soon be available. On May 5, Centralia U.C.W. will meet at the church at 7:00 p.m. be- fore proceeding to the new Bluewa- ter Recycling Plant in Huron Park. The meeting and lunch will be held at the church following the tour. Choir practices continue at Thames Road on Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m. for the combined church service on May 15. The sing song will begin at 10:30 a.m., fol- lowed by the service at 11:00 a.m., and then lunch. Rev. Roger McComb from Ingersoll will be the guest speaker at this special joint service. Euchre Euchre continues at Heywood's Restaurant on alternate Mondays. On April 18, Nola Lewis won the Ladies' High and Grace Wurm the Ladies' Lone. Walter Weber won the Men's Lone, and Howard Do- lan the Men's High. The Special was won by Evan Hodgins.
