Playhouse Guild holds luncheon
GRAND BEND - Members of
the Huron Country Playhouse
Guild held their monthly luncheon
meeting March 23 at Oakwood Inn.
President Shirley Platt chaired the
business.
It was decided to postpone an-
other Targe donation to the Play-
house, until the annual April mem-
bership fees come in, and the hank
balance is more favourable.
Joyce King, projects chair, listed
several on-going projects: sale of
tickets on the quilt and on an
"Oklahoma" style collectors doll.
Members were asked to make and
donate crafts to the Gift Shop.
In catering, Pat Venton will ask
members to donate muffins or
cookies for the April 14 Huron
Tourism workshop/brochure swap
to be held at the Playhouse.
Jacqui Krech, of the cookbook
committee, updated the Guild on
the progress of the cookbook,
which will be on sale in the Gift
Shop at $13.95, or for $12.95 if or-
dered before May 31. She request-
ed an additional $300 to fund im-
provements to the book covers -
added colour, wire rings and lami-
nating, which was agreed to by the
membership. Bits of Playhouse his-
tory are scattered throughout the
book for added interest.
President Shirley Platt extended a
thank you to the Guild from the
Playhouse Board of Directors, for
their recent donation of $4,000 for
'legs and borders' on the stage.
Kate Burnett, of Playhouse Founda-
tion, reminded everyone of the
need for accommodation for the ac-
tors who will be performing here
this summer. If anyone knows of
rental accommodation available,
phone Gloria Day at the Playhouse.
The guest speaker was John
McHenry, Huron Country Play-
house publicist, introduced by Mrs.
Sandy Rhymer. McHenry has been
a professional actor for years, but
now he acts as a goodwill ambassa-
dor for the Playhouse, greeting
theatre critics, attending trade
shows, and arranging media cover-
age or ads for radio, news letters,
and newspapers. In 1994 he'll be
placing promotions on television
for the first time. McHenry's
biggest challenge to date has been
the new 1994 Playhouse Brochure.
The next Guild meeting will be
held April 27 with a Spring Tea for
members, at Southcott Pines Club-
house, from 2-4:30 p.m.
