Last Tuesday night when the Exeter Broncos lost 7-2 to the Delhi German House, they knew they were up against a superior hockey team. Broncos' coach Dan Over- holt gave his players some advice during the final se - The win gave the German House the Ontario Minor Hock- ey Association atom 'CC' title. "I think we ran into the better team," said Broncos' coach Dan Overholt. We ran into some bigger gunners that we couldn't contain." Exeter did something to Delhi no other team could do in the post -season, that was get two ties against the tough German House team. During the OMHA play - downs, Delhi were undefeated and their stingy defence would only give up three ties, two of them to Exeter. Although the Broncos con- tained Delhi's top sniper Mi- chael Bouw for most of the se- ries, in last Tuesday's game he broke away and netted a pair to tie the game. Exeter had taken a 2-0 lead early in the contest, but the score was knotted at two after one period. Mike Seip and Matt Rowe scored for the Broncos while Craig Overholt had an as- sist. The hosts exploded for four unanswered goals in the middle frame. "We put a shadow on Michael Bouw. We were doing a good job but the rest of them took over," said Overholt of Delhi's balance. The Broncos had a very good year as they won Exeter's Bill Batten Tournament, took the ti- tle at the Mt. Brydges Tourna- ment, were 'A' finalists in Sea - forth, were the 'B' champions in the Shamrock League and ended up OMHA 'CC' finalists. "This group of atoms, I wish I could keep them for ever. They were all interested in learning," said Overholt. 'E' series tied up INN By Fred Groves T•A staff HURON PARK - It's road trip time for the Stephen Township ban- tams. On Saturday they will head to Otonabee to try and take the lead in their six -point Ontario Minor Hock- ey Association bantam 'E final se- ries. Stephen will play back -to -hack games in Otonabee, near Peterbo- rough, and it will take two straight wins for one team to win the crown. Game Three is at 7:30 p.m. Satur- day followed by a 1 p.m. start the next day. This past weekend at the Stephen Township Arena in Huron Park, visiting Otonabee won the first game 5-3 on Saturday and then the next day saw the hosts tic the series up with a 4- I decision. "We can play with them, we were a little flat in Friday's game," said Stephen coach Bob Parsons. "We finished the other series early." Stephen swept Norwich three games straight in the semi-finals and therefore had a 10 day wait be- fore they faced off against Otona- bee. Otonabee S. Stephen 3 In the final series opener played Friday night in Huron Park, the hosts jumped into a quick 1-0 lead in the first minute of the game hut they did not look sharp the rest of the way, losing 5-3. This game was fairly close and Otonabee scored into the empty net with 38 seconds left. Captain Jeff Glavin had two goals for the hosts with the other to John Ruffen. Assisting were Darryl Parsons, Matt Glavin, Ben McCann and Kurt Mills. Stephen 4. Otonabee 1 Jeff Glover may be the smallest player on the ice in the series but he sure came up big in Game Two on Saturday. The quick forward netted two goals and set up another as Stephen tied the series at a game each. "Hc comes through pretty well. He's a gamer and he works hard at it," said Parsons. Jeff Glavin and Matt Glavin each had a goal and an assist while McCann helped set up three goals. Also assisting were Tim Morgan and Mills. In this game Otonabee scored at the 9:04 point of the first period and held the lead until Stephen net- ted their first at 13:13. Once they took the lead in the second period, Stephen were in control of the game most of the way. Jason Glavin was in net for both games and he'll be counted on again this weekend to keep the puck out. When asked if -the bantams can win both on the weekend and make it three wins in a row. Parsons said, "it's possible especially if we play the way we did on Saturday." The nearly five hour long bus trip this weekend shouldn't bother the Stephen bantams as many of them experienced long distance playing two years ago when they won the peewee 'E' championship. "Three-quarters of them have been there before," said Parsons. If a fifth game is necessary, it will be played in Otonahcc. metasWixag awaRltrl.g.waR13 vix_AtaRsl _LRkLws SERVICE SELECTION SATISFACTION GUARANTEED 190 Thames Rd. E.
