The children were invited to shout
joyfully during the service, and lat-
er enjoyed a bunny cake baked by
Jean Caslick.

City", accompanied by Marjorie
Johns on the piano. Rev. Clare
Geddes answered the question
"What Reason for Hope?" daring

Champion fiddlers
coming to Blyth
BLYTH - North America's only
championship fiddle team is com-
ing to the Blyth Memorial Hall for
one toe -tapping, rousing concert
April 10.
Graham and Eleanor Townsend
are each champions in their own
right. Graham stunned the fiddle
world at the age of 11, winning the
CNE fiddling contest, heating es-
tablished adult players. His early
influences were old-time French
Canadian, Irish and Scottish melo-
dies. Later studies introduced him
to jazz, bluegrass, country and
western, Southern, Cajun and
western swing, and have earned
him the reputation as the most ver-
satile fiddler on the American con-
tinent.
Today Graham is the master of
every style, at home on any stage,
whether it be concert hall, night-
club, or playing for the Queen.
The late Don Messer, with whom
Graham worked very closely,
wrote that "Graham Townsend in-
terpretations of the oldtime melo-
dies by far exceed those of any
other player."
Eleanor Townsend was the first
woman to win the Canadian Open
Old-time Fiddling Championship
in Shelburne, after her winning
four times. Her win in Shelburne,
13 years ago, opened the door to
other women, many of them her
students.
Graham and Eleanor Townsend
will bring their award-winning
combination to the Blyth Memorial
Hall for one show only, at 2:30
p.m., on Sunday afternoon, April
10. Tickets are $15 in advance by
calling the Box Office at 523-9300.
Remaining tickets, if any, may be
available at the door for $20.
