I have tried the stuff advertised on the television and scrubbed a lot more than the product states, but the stain is stubborn and still there. Can 1 fix it? Crust in Kippen. .A •Dear Crusty. From the sound of it. you seem to have a build up of calcium on your toilet bowl. This problem is typical in our arca of hard water. Like yourself, l Lound all the fancy cleansers do not work well on this type of stain. The hest thing you can use is Muriatic Acid, found in your local hardware store. It works great and costs less than lour dollars for a one -titre bottle, which will last a long time. This stuff is dangerous. so make sure you wear rubber gloves and goggles. Don't mix the acid with any other cleaners or bleaches. All you have to do is slowly pour one cup of Muriatic Acid into the water in the howl and scrub lightly with a toilet brush. With the stain gone. flush the toilet twice to fully rinse off the acid and you're done. • Dear Dave - i have been having a lot of problems with our Eiimp pump. If I wiggle the wire to the float, the pump will start up and run properly, but if i leave it, it does not conte on all the time. Can 1 fix it? Drowning in sorrow. A• Dear. Drowning, We can look into a few possibilities. The first is stake sure the float/weight is not getting caught on anything. Try this out a few times gently filling the sump hole and observing. 1t it is hanging up on something, try repositioning the pump or mak- ing a "guide" to keep the wire and float free of obstructions. Now, if step one is not your problem, then for less than $20 and a few min- utes work. you can try replacing the switch. To do this, beg, borrow or rent another pump temporarily and pop it in the hole. Then turn oft the power to the old pump. You should remove it from the sump hole, then the remove the cover plate to the switch. Carefully mark the wires on the old switch and remove it by undoing the screw ter- minals or unsoldering the connections (depending on type). Replace the old switch with a new one. reinstall the cover plate and put the pump hack into the hole. Turn on the power to the pump and away you go. Happy pumping. If you have arty- questions for the You Can Fix It Corner, please send diem to David Eastwood. are of the Times -Advocate, Box 850, E.T- eter Ontario, NOM /5.6. The meeting at the South Huron District High School is open to all age groups. Discussion on Queensway construction continues HENSALL - The long awaited landscape/site plan for the proposed addition to the Queensway Nursing Horne was received by Hensall council earlier this month. Luanne Phair, clerk -treasurer for the village said during her report on March 14 that the new plan will be reviewed along with notes from a public meeting which was held in July 1992. Al that time a rezoning bylaw had been passed, but issues such as drainage and landscaping still had to be disc ssed.o Councilis expected to address the plan at the April meeting. Through the good work of Town and Country Homemakers there arc many social opportunities provided for seniors. We are interested in reaching people who arc not in that category, hut everyone is welcome to our meeting on April 15th at 8 p.m. Also, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Exeter United Church and Caven Presbyterian Church for providing the "seed" monies for this pro- ject.
