Road hockey madness
Over 20 teams in three different age groups competed in the March Break road hockey tour-
nament last Wednesday. Here it looks as though a shot is headed towards the net.
Road hockey
The tradition continues

It's a tradition which has been relived for decades.
When the heat of the sun licks away at those last piles of snow
along the roadside and when those hockey sticks which have still
got a few more shots left in them scrap along the pavement, that's
when the fiat begins.
This is road hockey.
There are no offsides, no icing and if you shoot the ball out of the
imaginary- boundary, it's proper manners if you volunteer to go and
get it.
Last Wednesday at the South Huron Recreation Centre, the game
of hockey moved from the cold, big ice surface just a few yards
away to good old-fashioned three -on -three road hockey.
Over_2o teams took part in the March Break activity and those
w)io competed and even the moms and dads who watched from the
sidelines, couldn't have had nicer weather.
Jackets were shed, running shoes became the means of movement
instead of skates and loud screams of joy when a goal was scored
echoed across the ball diamonds.
Road hockey is the binding link between ice hockey and baseball.
It's a tradition that will continue just as long as there is hockey and
as long as young people continue to enjoy it.
On Wednesday, the Dream Team beat the Farm Team in a wild
sudden -death overtime win to take the 'A' title of the 13-14 year-
old division. The Head Hunters topped the Exeter Red Wings for
the 'B' crown in the 12 team division.
In the 11 12 year-old division, the Park Sharks heat the Road
Warriors on the 'A' side while the Fireballs beat Road Jockies in
the 'B'.
The six -team 9-10 year-old division was won by the Road Run-
ners who beat the Red Canadians for the 'A' while Dangerous De -
kers beat the Steelers in the 'B' game.
Tools of the trade
of road hockey await
the next game.

High heels can cause sore feet and serious foot
damage. In fact, even 1 inch heels can do this. It's
best to choose shoes with heels no higher than
1/ 2 inch.
Nutrition tip: Beans (kidney, navy, etc.) are a great
food. They contain both soluble and insoluble fibre, vitamins and miner-
als. And 26% of the calories are from protein and only 6% is from fat.
They even lower blood cholesterol.
Do you get a headache from drinking red wine (even in moderation?) It
is thought that certain ingredients in red wine (not white) trigger the re-
lease of "prostaglandins", chemicals in the body that dilate blood ves-
sels causing pain.
Interesting news about PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome). The American
Psychiatric Association lists PMS as a "depressive disorder" in its new
diagnostic manual of mental illnesses. Estimates show 3-5% of females
suffer from PMS.
Good advice: "Before you take it, talk about it". We are always available
to talk to you about your medication.

"SPRING LAWN CARE"
Early Spring lawns can appear straw-coloured and dead. If the grass
seems very dense and matted, you can help by giving the lawn a good.
vigorous raking. Remove the piles of material and add them up to your
compost pile. This raking opens up the tum to allow light, water and fer-
tilizer penetration. It stimulates the grass plant and makes the lawn look
much better.
If your lawn is very sparse and you have had serious problems with
crabgrass in precious years, you may wish to apply a crabgrass control
This material must be applied very early in the spring because it stops
the crabgrass roots as they begin to grown. After a crabgrass control
has been applied, the soil surface should not be disturbed in any way
Raking or digging will destroy the Affectiveness of the crabgrass control
material.
