Atom `E' Sonics trail semi series HURON PARK - Turnovers and giveaways hurt the : tephen Sonics against Thedford in the first two games of the Ontario Minor Hockey As- sociation's atom 'E semi-final series. Friday night in Thedford, the visiting Sonics lost the opener 8-3. Brian Dixon, Jeremy VanBergen and Brayden Lord scored for Stephen. Assist- ing on the goals were Henny Pfaff, Shawn Sherwood and Danny Mosurin- john. Thedford outshot the Sonics 25-18. After the big loss, the Sonics regrouped on Saturday afternoon as they were able to contain Thedford's speedy forwards. The teams played to a hard fought 1-1 overtime tie. Jeff Finkbeiner scored the lone goal for Stephen with the assists going to Lord and Bryan Stuckless. Stephen outshot Thedford 20-18. Thcdford, who now lead the series three points to one, will host the third game on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. It's back to Huron Park on Friday for a 7 p.m. game and then if necessary, the fifth game will be played Sunday in Thedford at 6 p.m. Bantam `E' Stephen dominates Norwich HURON PARK - Last night the Stephen Township bantams hoped to sweep Norwich in their Ontario Minor Hockey Association bantam 'E' semi-final series. If they did win, the locals would be heading to the finals; it's the first time a Stephen teams gone on since the peewee Sha s did it two years ago. The Sharks, some of which are now on the Stephen ban- tam team, went on to beat Sunder- land for the title. Saturday afternoon at the Stephen Township Arena in Huron Park, the bantams beat visiting Norwich 6-2 to take a commanding lead in thc series. Thursday night in Norwich, Ste - Peewee 'E' Storm sweep Thedford, now to finals By Fred Groves T -A staff THEDFORD - Although they watched a five -goal lead slowly slip away, the Zurich Storm man- aged a 7-4 win Monday night over Thedford and have gained a trip to the Ontario Minor Hockey Associa- tion peewee 'E' championship se- ries. Although tines and dates of the series were not yet determined -by press time. the Storni will be taking on Ops (near Peterborough). Monday in Thedford, the visiting Storm had a commanding 5-0 lead heading into the final few minutes of the second period. Thedford caught up and going into the dress- ing room after two periods of play, the Storm were hanging onto a slim 5-3 lead. High -scoring Jarrett Jeffrey opened the scoring about five min- utes into the game with a power- play goal when he came down the right side and put the puck over the goalie's shoulder and just under thc crossbar. With 1:52 left in the first period, Jeffrey stole the puck went in and got the shot away and waiting in the slot for the rebound was Brad Brown who made no mistake in making it 2-0. It only took 48 seconds to make it a three -goal lead as Brown let go with what would he three straight Zurich goals scored on the back- hander. Early in the second period, Storm defensemen Jennifer Jeffrey, who gave out one of the hardest hits of the game, and Richard Desjardine did a good job keeping the puck in the zone. Brown intercepted a pass and got Brad Brown ...12 points In three games it to Jarrett Jeffrey who spun around scored on the backhander. Mike Laporte who also had a strong game on the blueline, helped set up the goal. The nicest goal of the game came midway through the middle period when Brown won the draw, got it hack to Jarrett Jeffrey who walked in and let go with a backhander Jarrett Jeffrey ...four goals In first game that just got inside the post. With 4:05 left in the period, Thedford chipped away and scored three in a row. Zurich goalie Darryl Smale had little help as he was making the first and sometimes even second stops, but the defence couldn't clear the puck. Brown brought the fans back to their seats early in the third period when he blasted a shot which rang the cross bar and went in. Thedford added another one but with the goalie out, Brown scored an empty- netter with I 1 seconds left. Storm 3. Thedford 1 After winning the opening game of the series fairly easily, Game Two in Thedford Friday night was a lot tougher for the Storm. Brown scored two goals, the sec- ond one going into the empty net as Thedford had the goalie out and were looking to tie the score. Winger Shawn Grainger had the other goal while Matt Denomme added an assist. Storm 6. Thedford 1 Last Wednesday night in Zurich, the host Storm won the series open- er, 6-1 Jeffrey led the attack with a big five -point night as he scored four goals and set up another. Denomme netted one and had an assist while Brown had four assists. Also scoring for the winners as Joe DeBus while defenseman Jen- nifer Jeffrey had two assists. Grainger and Jeremy Geoffrey helped set up goals. Bantam 'D' Lincoins, Campbellford final series tied CAMPBFI.1 FORD - The Exeter Lincolns and Campbellford seem to be two very closely matched teams. in Campbellford at the Ontario Minor Hockey Asso- ciation bantam 'D' final series on the weekend, each team won a game and will head into Exeter this week- end tied. Saturday night the hosts managed a slim 3-2 win. Luke Sims scored both goals for the Lincolns, both were unassisted. The following day, defenseman Larry Cole and Sims scored in a 2-1 victory. Assisting were Sims, Adam Hern and Brock Weiss. Game Three of the eight -point series goes Friday at the South Huron Recreation Centre in Exeter at 8 p.m. That is followed on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at12:30 p.m. phen goalie Jason Glavin came up with a big game as he allowed just one goal in a 2-1 win. John Rutten had a goal and an assist to pace the winners while Derek Swietzer scored and Ian Becker had an as- sist. Captain Jeff Glavin led Stephen with three goals and an assist. With 2:16 left in the second period he went in and scored shorthanded.
