HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes Advocate, 1994-03-16, Page 15Wet Times -Advocate, March 16, 1994 Page 15 The road to the OMHA championships Atom `E' Sonics still super, two shutout wins HURON PARK - A pair of shutout wins lifted the Stephen Township Sonics to the WOAA atom championship on Saturday and they now head to the OMHA 'E' septi -finals against Thedford. Game One goes Friday in Thedford at 8 p.m. and then its at the Stephen Township Arena on Saturday at I p.m. On Saturday, Jeremy Vanbergen scored three goals and set up three more as the Sonics beat Clifford 11-0. Brian Dixon had two goals and four assists while Jeff Finkbeiner had a pair of tallies and two assists. Also scoring were Shawn Sherwood, Bryan Stuckless, Danny Mosurin- john and Adam McCann who all help set up goals. Brayden Lord had three assists and Henny Pfaff also had an assist. Goalies Chris Glavin and Gary Sauder combined for the shutout. Thursday in Clifford, Sherwood had two goals with one each to Lord and Finkbeiner. Glavin picked up the shutout in net. LNext game - Friday in Thedford Atom `CC' Bilinsky scores shorthanded goal MITCHELL - Mark Bilinsky had a shorthanded goal on Sunday as the Exeter Broncos managed a 4-4 tie with Mitchell in OMHA peewee 'CC" semi-final play. The tie has Exeter ahead in the six -point series three pointe one which they will take into tonight's game in Exeter at 6:20 p.m. The next game is scheduled for Mitchell on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. Sunday saw Brandon Martin score one goal and set up another while Mike Seip scored twice. Craig Overholt had two assists while Ben Rader, Steven Rasenberg, Ryan Groot, Andrew Maver and Barry Parsons also as- sisted. Last Wednesday in Exeter, Martin and Seip each had two goals in a slim 4-3 win. Groot and Overholt drew the assists. Ryan Sullivan played well in net for the Broncos who led 2-1 after the first period. Next game - Wednesday in Exeter Exeter RSD Generals goalie Darren Kints was caught way out of his net during action in last Wednesday's OMHA midget 'CC' game in Exeter. Peewee 'E' Storm win WOAA title, now in OMHA semi-finals ZURICH - The arena in this village will soon be coming to life in a big way as the Zurich Storm head into the OMHA peewee 'E' semi-finals. Tonight the Storm will host Thedford in the opening game at 8:30 p.m. and then its off to Thedford on Friday night. Last Wednesday night, cap- tain Brad Brown scored four goals in a 5-2 win over Wallace to win the WOAA final which doubled as the OMHA quarter -finals. Jarrett Jefffrey had the other goal while Matthew Denomme had two as- sists and Mike Laporte and Shawn Grainger also assisted. Darryl Smale picked up another win between the pipes. Next game - Wednesday in Zurich MitlgQt.'CC' Generals down by two games SEAFORTH - Hoping they can turn things around, the RSD Generals have got their backs against the wall. Saturday night in Seaforth, the Generals were beaten 3-1 to put them be- hind two -games -to -none in the OMHA midget 'CC' semi-finals. Marty De- Bruyn and Gavin Snell teamed for the lone Exeter goal. Goalie Darren Kints along with Chris McDonald, Snell and DeBruyn were the Generals top players. Last Wednesday in Exeter, the Generals were shocked 5-2 in the opener. Bill Hodge gave the hosts a 1-0 first period lead when he teamed with Tre- vor Taylor and McDonald. But a rash of penalties hurt the Generals and they were behind 4-2 after two periods. DeBruyn had the other Exeter goal as McDonald and Jim Dietrich helped out. Stars were Hodge, Brent Gibson and Geoff Maver. Next game - Wednesday in Exeter Bantam `E' Glavin scores two to lift Stephen HURON PARK - Jeff Glavin scored two goals and set up two more on Saturday as Stephen Township beat Wallace 6-3 to win the WOAA cham- pionship. A pair of wins against Wallace means Stephen heads to the OMHA semi-finals against Norwich. Game One of the semis goes Thursday at 8 p.m. in Norwich. Game Two is Saturday at the Huron Park Arena at 3:30 p.m. In Saturday's win, Tim Morgan had two goals and an assist while Jeff Glover scored once and set up another. Derek Sweitzer had a goal with as- sists to Ben McCann, Matt Glavin, Greg Hendrick and Jeremy Slater. Friday, Wallace came up with a 4-2 win. Darryl Parsons and Ben McCann scored. Hendrick, Matt Glavin and Jeff Glavin assisted. Goalie Jason Glavin picked up both wins in net. Next game - Thursday in Norwich Have you got your T -A coaches recognition form in?
