Broda chair (Iodation
South Huron District Hospital in Exeter received a very generous donation last week as the
Hoggarth family donated a Broda chair. The donation was in memory of Margaret Hoggarth.
Looking up to catch some attention and trying out the chair was two year-old Samantha Mit-
ton. Other family members are Darryl Mitton, left; Janet Mitton) Paul Hoggarth, Annette Hog-
garth and young Grayson Hoggarth. South Huron nurses are Ann Hernham, Marion Cornish,
Anne Klan and Doris Wragg.

Hensall Legion Br. 468

HENSALL - The regular meeting of the Hensall
Legion Br. 468 was held March 9 at 8 p.m. Plans
were made regarding several upcoming events.
On March 19 a St. Patrick's party is being held at 8
p.m., all Leprechauns invited. March 23 will be vete-
rans afternoon at the Legion at 1 p.m. All veterans
are invited out for a social time.
There will be a solo tournament at the Legion
March 26. Registration time is 1:30 p.m., game time
2:00 p.m. April 9 there will be a dart tournament with
registration at 1:30 p.m. with darts to begin at 2:00
p.m.
A Senior's Daffodil Dessert Euchre anddames
p.m., April 13, at the Legion. The meat ro was held
March 5.
A motion was made to pay for two hockey uni-
forms required by the Old Timers hockey team. Do-
nations were made toward the Epilepsy and Alzhei-
mer's societies.
Shuffleboard league
The Hensall Legion Shuffleboard League recently
concluded 10 weeks of play and four weeks of
playoffs with a potluck supper. Winners of the games
were: high man, Mark Consitt; high lady, Caroline
Lenting; champs man, Paul Ritchie; champs lady,
Gladys MacGregor.
Horticultural Society meeting
The March meeting of the Hensall Horticultural So-
ciety was held March 7 at the Hensall United Church.
President Kathy Mann opened the meeting with a
poem. Inge Mowat spoke, on the horticultural socie-
ty's plans for the community yard sale and Donna
Tannahill discussed a fundraising idea. Luanne Phair
then introduced guest speakers Carol and Kevin
Stcckle, of Huron Ridge Acres, who spoke on appro-
priate plants for the village flowerbeds. Sheila Reab-
urn thanked the speakers, draws followed and the
evening concluded with lunch.
Hensel! Seniors
The Hensall Seniors held a euchre party at the are-
na March 2, with 12 tables in play. Winners of the
card were Marg Hayter, Laird Jacobi and Elmer
Hayter. Winners of the draws were Elizabeth Graing-
er, Vera Smale, Norene Hayter. The next euchre will
be held March 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the arena. Admis-
sion is $2.00 and everyone is welcome.
The March meeting of the Hensall Seniors was held
at the United Church. The Hensall Swinging Seniors
will play at Huronview March 23 to help the group
entertain. There will be no meeting in April. The
Spring Rally will be held at Holmesville Aprii 20,
,with registration at 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The euchre winners were Hugh McKay, Gertie
Moir, Anita Bengough, and Pearl McKnight.
Carmel P.C.W.
President Jan Baker opened the March meeting of
the Carmel P.C.W. with a poem followed by the wor-
ship service conducted by Rachael Schwalm. Doro-
thy Taylor was the pianist for the evening. Margaret
Varley read the February minutes. Plans were made
for the spring luncheon to be held April 26. The
group agreed to cater to the Huron County Historical,
meeting in May.
The president closed with prayer after which lunch
was served by Gertie Moir and Rachel Schwalm. The
April meeting will be held on Easter Monday.
Presbyterian church service
At Carmel Presbyterian Church, this past Sunday,
Rev. Gwen Brown was the guest minister and along
with Karen McCallum and Dean Morrison, conduct-
ed the service.
U.C.W.
At the Hensall United Church the U.C.W. are plan-
ning their annual spring supper for April 13.
Personal
The sympathy of the community is extended to
Mrs. Ethel Maxwell and family at the passing of Ar-
nold George Maxwell.

THAMES ROAD - The March
meeting of the U.C.W. was held on
Monday evening with 28 women
present. Elda Riehl welcomed eve-
ryone to the meeting and opened
with the Call to Worship "We Go
This Way But Once."
After the ladies sang "Pass It
On", Beatrice Dawson read "It was
on St. Patrick's Day". Alma Ballan-
tyne read Philippians 4:4-9 and also
read the Meditation.
Dawson and Doris Simpson re-
ceived the offering and Riehl gave
the Offertory Prayer.
Simpson gave a reading "I am
Fine Thank You."
The group sang "Happiness is the
Lord's". Riehl gave a prayer.
lean O'Rourke of Exeter spoke to
the group on her 1993 exchange
that she and her husband Terry and
family went on to South Island,
New Zealand where they taught
school. She showed a video on
South Island and Invercargo where
they lived for a year. Riehl present-
ed her with a gift.
President Margaret Stewart
opened the business portion of the
meeting with a poem "March and
April". The roll call, minutes. cards
of thanks, treasurer's report, and
the Board of Managers report were
given.
The group received an invitation
to music night at Woodham, Sun-
day, March 20 at 7:30 p.m.
London Conference is to be held
at Stratford, April I I, 12.
Confirmation will be held on
April 10 at Thames Road Church at
11:15 a.m. The members decided to
get Easter lilies for the church.
Anyone who wishes to put lilies in
the church in memory of their rela-
tives, is to let Sharon Passmore
know before March 30.
The meeting closed with the sing-
ing of "1 Love to Tell the Story"
and the president closed the meet-
ing with prayer.
Shamrocks and a plant decorated
the basement for the meeting.

Church service
The fourth Sunday of Lent
church Service was conducted by
Rev. Jim Allsop. The Responsive
reading was taken from the Green
Service Book 'The Redeemer of
the Lord", Psalm 107. The choir
sang 'Take My Hand" accompa-
nied by organist Jean Hodgert.
The congregation sing the -chil•
-
dren's hymn 'This is 'the Day" and
Rev. Allsop told the children's sto-
ry "Ood and His &World" using a
globe.
Rhoda Rohde read the Scripture
1 Asson: Numbers 21:4-9 EQhesians
2:1-10.
Rev. Allsop read from John 3:14-
21 and the title of his sermon was
"From Death to Life".
The closing hymn was "We Love
the Place, 0 God".

They are each to bring a Ioonie.
A Good Friday service is to be
held April 1 at Elimville at 8:00
p.m.
April 3 a sunrise service will be
held at Thames Road at 8:00 a.m.
With breakfast to follow at 9:30
a.m. The regular Easter day service
will be a joint service at Thames
Road at 11 a.m.

Blue Water Rest Home
Entertainment for birthdays
ZURICH - Monday evening
members of the Dashwood Wom-
en's • Institute entertained the resi-
dents of Blue Water Rest home for
their March Birthday Party. Cathe-
rine Becker, as chairperson kept the
residents amused with her jokes
and the "The Cats on the Roof".
Ruth Stire played a piano solo and
was piano accompaniment for the
ladies. A skit, the revised version of
"The Little Red Hen" was put on
by Becker, Edith Baker, Florence
Martene and Mrs. Freiter. Martha
Weigand read two poems. Stire and
Dorothy Restemayer performed the
skit "A Farmer's Divorce". Fruit
bread and refreshments were served
by the Women's Institute.
Best wishes and gifts were hand-
ed out to the 11 birthday people.

Rev. Gani Lazaro, Zurich United
Church, led Tuesday afternoon
Bible Study. Wednesday afternoon
tea was served to Verda Baechler
and Ina Neeb. Rev. Lazaro con-
ducted Chapel Service on Thursday
afternoon and held communion
with the residents.
Thursday evening the family of
Leonard Erb served cake and ice
cream to the residents in celebra-
tion of Leonard's 83 years young.
Glen Thiel took residents Harvey
Keys, Madeline Harburn, Kurt
Gebel, Theodore (Ted) Steinbach,
Catherine Riehl and Nelson Howe
on a trip to look at swans south of
Grand Bend. The group was unable
to site any swans - they knew Hu-
ron County had had a bad winter
and had delayed their departure.
However, the residents were able
to. view the ice at St. Joseph's
shore, tour Crediton and Centralia
before returning home.
At the March Auxiliary meeting
the residents were entertained by
Mozart, Julie and Chantel Gelinas.
Natalie Overholt played a piano
solo with the help of page turner
Alyshia Gelinas. Ann Flaxbard
read an Irish poem "The Wearin of
the Green". Marie Gelinas thanked
her guests and helped Martha Du-
charme, Dorothy Bapty and Ann
Flaxbard serve lunch of assorted
breads, cheese and refreshments.
Our best wishes to Lawrence
(Paddy) Bedard who is visiting
South Huron Hospital, Exeter.
Thank you to Earl Flaxbard who
donated four shooting sticks and a
lazy susan to be placed under the
Home's crokinole board. Many res-
idents enjoy spending their day
challenging each other at the sport
and find the easy turning of the
board most helpful and the sticks
are useful for those who have short
arms or wheelchair arms which
hold them back from the table.
