Nearly 70 women from area churches participated in the service, with representatives from the Church of God, St. John's ByTthe-Lake Anglican, the Grand Bend United Church and the Dashwood United Church serving as readers in the program. CWL hostess, Roberta Walker welcomed those attending and pre- sented a short slide show giving some background details lbout the Palestinian -Israeli conflict, set amidst the Holy Places in Jerusa- lem. It is tragic that war, hatred and bloodshed overshadow the source of three major religions - Judaistn, Christianity and Muslim located in the Old City of Jerusa- lem. This World Day of Prayer service was written by the Chris- tian women of Palestine, in a plea tor peace; an end to conflict in this sharply divided country. Father Paul Beck was the guest speaker, and he discussed the in- herent contradiction in the term "religious war". Lorna Miller was the organist for the service, accompanying soloist Roberta Walker for "Come Unto Him" from Handel's Messiah. The church choir sang "Seek Ye First" during the collection, which raised 5187 for the Women's Inter - Church Council of Canada. This organization sponsors World Day of Prayer and Mission projects in Canada and other countries. Fol- lowing the program, everyone en- joyed refreshments and fellowship in the Parish Hall.
