Lew- is Ltd. have agreed to extend the present garbage collection and dis- posal contract to two years to Janu- ary of 1996. The annual fee council will pay will be $29,640 plus $125 for each actual trip made to the waste dispo- sal site in Warwick township. For 1995 the same fee will apply except for the addition of $47.50 for each new extra housing unit us- ing the system. At the latest meeting, councillor Bryan Smith and deputy reeve Har- ry Wraith reported that the joint waste management program with three area municipalities was being closed out at the end of March. At this time the village's blue box and recycling program will be taken over by the Bluewater Asso- ciation and hopefully blue box pickups will continue to be on Fri- day. The equipment previously used by the waste management commit- tee in the depot will be offered for sale by tender. Wraith suggested to council the possibility of selling water to farm- ers and others requiring Targe amounts. It was reported London township sells water from behind the fire hall in Arva and gets more than $4,000 a year in revenue from this pro- gram. Reeve Tom McLaughlin said, This sounds like a good idea and warrants investigation and works superintendent Doug Johnston add- ed, "We have tons of water and it could sell for $5 per thousand gal- lons." Clerk Ron Reymer said an offer to purchase the abandoned C.N. right-of-way in the village would be made this week for $20,000, plus legal fees. Adjoining property owners who wish to acquire the abutting lands have already paid in excess of $21,300 for this purpose. In discussing the no -smoking reg- ulations at the Lucan Community Centre, council leased a legal opin- ion revealed that the arena board has control over this issue. If any person does not cease smoking af- ter being asked to stop, police may be called and a trespassing charge may be laid. Smoking is allowed in the Lepre- chaun room and the large auditori- um, but not in the ice surface seat- ing area and the lobby which includes the concession booth. A Carolina Golf Fest at the Lucan Community Centre was the place to be on Friday and Saturday. The first time Golf Fest seemed the best way to break the winter blahs according to many of the Lucan Optimists who put on the fundraiser. And while Lucan Reeve Tom McLaughlin, on right, prepares for the perfect hit, his wife Mary -Ann looks on with London - Middlesex MP Pat O'Brien.
