LUCAN - A tournament for Ne-
vada ticket buyers was held recent-
ly at Lucan Lanes. This was a pins
over average tourney and claiming
top prize, a large cooked ham, was
• Andy McIntyre. Andy bowled
games of 393, 191 and 228 for an
812 triple which was 194 pins over
his 206 average. Second with +155
was Shelley Best to win a large pig
cannister. Third of the evening was
Kevin Haw at +137 and received
pewter pig wind chimes. Gary Mel-
vin placed fourth with +125 to cap-
ture the much admired glow in the
dark boxer shorts, covered with
pigs of course. Fifth was Laurie
McGee who took home Charlotte's
Web pig by bowling a +113. We
hope that Bill Mathers and Kathy
Mason are making good use of
their piggy tea towels.
On Sunday, the zone finals were
held of the Four Steps to Stardome
for Y.B.C. bowlers. The Bantam
girls team from Lucan placed sec-
ond and received silver medals at
Plaza Lanes in London. Team
members were Ayden 011ivier, who
had a 396 triple, Ashley Smith 369,
Kelly Wilson 359, Robyn Hodge
350 and Suzanne Juergens at 299.
This is the best ever showing by a
Lucan Y.B.C. team in this event
and are to he congratulated as they
were bowling against teams mainly
from London and finished just 70
pins behind Bowlarama. The ban-
tam boys team of Mike Ankers,
Robbie Yeo, Aaron Holland, Derek
and James Lucier placed sixth at'
Centre Bowlerama. Junior boys
Marcus Appelman, Tyler Graham,
Brad Ankers, Kurt Juergens and
Greg Cunningham came in fourth
at Dorchester. Junior girls Norma
Culbert, Vanessa Smith, Arden
Carter, Megan Anderson and Kris-
ten Hickson were sixth at Fleetway.
Our thanks go out to the coaches
for these teams - Brenda Smith,
Larry Smith, and Frank and Pat
Palen.
Recently, the Sleaman's Holiday
Classic house round was held, and
the winning team was from the
Sunday mixed league, Gary and
Sandra Melvin, Pat Rimmer, Dorn
Stoddart and Sandra Glover bowled
a combined 277 pins over their av-
erages. They will be bowling in a
regional round in St. Thomas on
April 17 and will be coached by
Larry Smith. Placing second, with
+256 were Evelyn Smith, Harry
Noels, Peter VanDenboomen, Edie
Burt and Jean Dann from the Lucan
Seniors. Third place went to a team
from the Lucan Men's league, John
Jansen, Don Wallis, Tom Bullock,
Don Watt and Murray Yeo, who
finished the day with a +226. This
tournament would not be the suc-
cess that it is without the generous
support of the Sleaman Brewing
Company.
CENTRALIA - Although winter
temperatures continued again this
week, the sun is gaining strength on
our way to warmer spring days. On
Sunday, Reverend Clare Geddes
helped prepare us for the Easter
event with his sermon entitled
"Words From the Cross: Second
Word."
Prayer is a very important part of
our Christian faith. A World Day of
Prayer service will be hosted by the
U.C.W. at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at
Centralia United Church. Everyone
is invited to participate in this spe-
cial activity.
If one of the items on your list of
things to do includes subscribing to
The Observer, contact Rev. Geddes
right away. The subscription price
for this informative and interesting
magazine is $10.00.

Last week was a busy time for beaver and cub groups as they celebrated the 20 birthday
of the organization. In Hensall, on Thursday night, the local beaver group got together with

and banner at the Hensall region are: Jeremy Thomson, of Hensall; Charlie Jinks of Hen-
sall; leader Derrick Rath, of Bayfield; leader Linda Alexander, of Hensall; John Wild and
