game.
Kaegan Mundy hit a three -
pointer with 22 seconds left to play
to give the visitors the win. South
Huron's Dwayne McNab led all
scorers with 21 points.
Concentrating on defence during Monday afternoon's junior

Sitter brings home bronze from national tournament
t
EXETER - iDoug Sittcr may only be 18 but he has already competed in
four national championships.
His sport, underwater hockey, is highly unrecognized. It doesn't grab
headlines and it doesn't make the evening news hut it has seen thc South
Huron District High School student win his second bronze medal at the na-
tionals in as many years.
"i first played when I was 14, in Thunder Bay. i was on the mixed (cam
that year," said Sitter.
During the weekend of February 20-21 while thc whole world was
watching the start of the Winter Olympics in Norway, Sitter was represent -

Championships In Edmonton.
ing Ontario for the foul ill time, this winter in Edmonton for the province's
men's 'A' team.
Ontario had players from Sitter's home club, the London Dolphins, Sault
Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay and Cornwall.
Underwater hockey, as explained in the past by Sitter's long-time team-
mate Jim Fleming, is a very physical demanding sport which requires
competitors to push a weighted puck across the bottom of the pool.
"France claimed they started it and Britain say they started it," explained
Sitter. "Commercial divers, to stay in shape they used to push a brick
across the bottom of the pool for conditioning."
Each team has three forwards, two pivots and one defenseman who dou-
bles as the goalie. There is a world championships although in the past,
Canada has not done to well.
When asked how spectators watch this sport, Sitter said by way of came-
ras.
"At the national level they have underwater cameras and TV's in the sta-
dium," he said.
As Fleming will contest to, there is no money for the underwater athletes
to participate in national championships so they have to go it alone. Sitter
did however get a small cheque to cover some of his expenses to last
year's event.
While underwater hockey may not he on the tips of everyone's lips like the
above water ice version, it's growing.
"it almost became an Olympic demonstration sport," said Sitter. "Mon-
treal has a coach and play four times a week. They're not a recreational
team, they're in incredible shape."
Sitter a multi -talented athlete also played on the senior boys basketball
team at the high school and also competed in rugby.
