CWL orders membership pins

GRAND BEND - The Immacu-
late Heart of Mary Council of the
Catholic Women's League met on
February 8 in the Parish Hall, fol-
lowing Mass in the church. CWL
President Lia Vandenberk chaired
the business. Due to an increase in
Ler capita fees at the national level,
I( was soled to raise this council's
membership fees to $12.(X) annual-
ly A new membership pin has been
created for 10 years service, to en-
courage participation and recognize
contributions of younger members.
It was decided to order four of
these IO year pins. in addition to
seseral 25 year pins to be awarded
thus year.
Mcrnhers were asked to pray for
three CWL women in our parish
who are ill at home or in hospital.
Cathy Vrolyk circulated a new re-
membrance book she made in hon-
our of deceased members.
Father Beck reminded the mem-
bership that Lent is beginning, and
that he would like to have volun-
teers for a Wednesday morning cof-
fee social with the pastor after 10
a.ni. Mass during Lent.
Two people will become new
members of the Catholic communi-
ty during Easter. The dept on the
new parish hall has been paid down
to S6,000 already.
Following the meeting, a social
time for refreshments and fellow-
ship was enjoyed.
Vandenherk thanked all those
who helped over the Christmas hol-
idays, to collect the White Gifts for
the needy, to make Christmas bas-
kets, or who helped with the Christ-
mas Ecumenical, for their contribu-
tion. The executive met to fill out
and mail the annual CWL national
report forms. Rita Smits and Nancy
Stokkermans will he in charge of
awarding plaques to any young pa-
rishioners who have received Con-
firmation.
The Huron -Perth CWL Annual
Fun Night was held February 9 at
the Blyth arena. Six members plus
Father Beck attended the event,
joining over 275 ladies from the re-
gion for a potluck supper, hilarious
entertainment and fellowship.
About 30 from Grand Bend, Mount
Carmel and Exeter chartered a bus
for the evening. Roberta Walker, a
CWL member from Grand Bend,
contributed a solo to the program, a
rousing spiritual "Ain't Got Time
to Die".
Immaculate Heart of Mary is
hosting the World Day of Prayer
Ecumenical Service on March 4,
Friday at 1:30 p.m. (changed from

Church of God, St. John's Angli-
can, Dashwood -Calvary United and
Grand Bend united, but everyone
is welcome to attend.
A pancake breakfast for all pa-
rishioners is being planned for
March 27, Palm Sunday. It was de-
cided to donate $ I(X) to Contact
House in Forest, which is a food
hank run by several local churches.
The Diocesan CWL Convention
will be held in London in the new
Convention Centre, beginning with
Presidents Night on April 25. Mon-
day, through Tuesday sessions, Fun
Night and Wednesday elections of
new officers and closing banquet.
April 27. The theme is "The Inter-
national Year of the Family", and
members are encouraged to attend
the sessions, in addition to the two
delegates. Work will soon begin in
a quilting hec for the annual quilt
raffle, held on Labour Day.
There are invitations to a retreat
at Mount Carmel on Saturday, Feb-
ruary 26, lO a.m. to 3 p.m. with
Sister St. Louis as guest speaker;
and to Forest CWL, St. Christo-
pher's parish on March 8 to hear
Sister St. John speak about the In-
ternational Year of the Family Our
own council will be hosting a Day
of Recollection on Wednesday,
March 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.,
with a guest speaker from the Dioc-
esan executive, CWL's from For-
est, Mount Carmel, Parkhill and St.
Peter', will be invited. The month-
ly business meeting for March will
be held immediately following.
Tillie VanLeeuwen will be in
charge of organizing CWL volun-
teers to serve Meals on Wheels for
the month of March (five weeks) as
requested by Marie Bannon of
Larnhton Elderly Outreach.
The Youth Involvement Ontario
requested a donation at the provin-
cial level, to support its conference
committee to plan the annual con-
ference. Roberta Walker provided
some additional history and infor-
mation about YIO's friendship and
support of all young people (age
13-23) who face physical and de-
velopmental challenges.
