Times Advocate, 1994-02-23, Page 10Page 10 Times -Advocate, February 23, 1994 R I 41 I Customer service top priority at Thompson's HENSALL - Quality and customer service continues to be the main pri- ority for all branches of W.G. Thompson and Sons Ltd. Hensall branch manager Dale Good says, "We have the customer in mind in every transaction and try to give him what he wants." Good says he is confident the upswing in the farm economy started last year will continue in 1994. He continued, "I have good feelings for the coming year with commodi- ty prices the way they are. As of last Wednesday morning old crop corn was selling for $3.60. A year ago the price was $2.48. The same situation exists for soybeans with the curent old crop prices at $8.70 compared to $6.86 at the same time in 1993." Good added, " We have an excellent staff here at Hensall as at all of the other Thompson locations. Staff turnover is almost nil. We have had more employee training meetings and farmer seminars this spring than ever be- fore. Topics for farmers included soil nutrition, plant genetics, crop protec- tion and markets. Personnel in our brokerage department in Blenheim are very aggressive in their business. Training sessions have also been held for farmers who handle pesticides. Every farmer must have a licence to handle pesticides. To this subject, Good said, " It's an excellent idea. Knowing how to use chemicals produc- es a safer environment. It's more and more important to be good stewards of the land." In 1924, Wesley G. Thompson had the foresight to see that Ontario agri- culture would one day play a major role in Canadian grain trade. With a single elevator and feed mill, and a solid determination to improve market- ing and farm services to Ontario farmers, Thompson opened the doors to .vhat has become one of the province's most progressive and prominent agri-businesses. Today with the third generation of Thompsons operating the business, the firm has 14 elevators and grain processing facilities from Coatsworh in the southwest to Pontypool, northeast of Toronto plus research stations at Morpeth, Nairn , Exeter and Monkton. The newest elevator facility is at Pain Court. Exceptional service has always been the trademark of the family-owned business and the third generation of Thompsons is proudly maintaining the "Growing Tradition." A grain trading division has been established at Thompson's head office in Blenheim giving the company the advantage of marketing its own grain.
