Sexual Health Week '94
CLINTON - February 14-20 is
Sexual Health Week in Huron
County. The theme this year is
"Sexual Health Education Begins at
Home". Pamphlets, bookmarks and
posters will be displayed at Huron
County libraries and Huron County
Health Unit branch offices.
Parents of children in daycare
centres and nursery schools will be
given newsletters and 'Talk Sex"
pamphlets with tips.on talking with
children about sex.
Public Health Nurses are also
available to speak to groups on how
to talk with children and teens
about sex. Books, pamphlets and
videos are available from the Hu-
ron County Health Unit to help par-
ents talk with their children in a
comfortable manner.
Sexual Health Week '94 supports
the theme of International Year of
the Family and the positive role
that parents play in providing sexu-
al health information to their chil-
dren.
Discussion about sexuality in the
home provides an opportunity for
parents to share information, family
values and beliefs. Being able to
discuss sexuality in one's family
can assist children to develop the
skills necessary to build strong,
healthy future relationships.
The promotion of the parents as
prime educator of the child compli-
ments the well-developed curricu-
lum on family life and health with-
in the educational system.

February is Heart Month in Canada. It Is a good
time to note the difference between a heart attack
and a stroke...
A heart attack occurs when the blood supply to the
heart muscle Is cut off. This Is due to a blood clot
blocking blood -vessels feeding the heart. These blood vessels may have
already been narrowed due to plaque build up. The blockage means the
heart doesn't receive oxygen and begins to die.
Strokes are caused by a sudden blockage of blood supply to the brain.
Over half of strokes are caused by a blockage to the main artery going
to the brain. About 25% are caused by a travelling blood clot that lodges
In the brain. A smaller number of strokes occur when a blood vessel
ruptures ("aneurysm") in the brain.
Smoking Is still a big risk factor in heart disease and stroke. Bails
Is
never too late to suit. A research projected studied 100,000 women
who quit smoking. The risk of stroke reduced by 22% In two years and
by close to 90% in four years.
At Huron Apothecary, we want to help you understand the Importance of
all your medication, Including your heart medication.
