Golden Agers hold luncheon
By Jean Dann
Sixty members of the Grand
Bend Golden Agers Club enjoyed
their January luncheon Wednesday
at the Royal Canadian Legion.
' After lunch, dance instructor Les
Greenwood set the pace by leading
everyone in some line dancing and
Gordon Nesbitt then informed the
members about the law as it ap-
plies to power of attorney and liv-
ing will situations.
President Ron Dann then chaired
husiness of the meeting. Lloyd
Mousseau advised that the club's
shuffleboard Monday afternoon
and Thursday morning at the Le-

numbers and financially.

fourth Wednesday beginning to-
night and carpet bowling every

gion. Five pin howling continues

Successful dessert theatre
raises money for retreat
By Muriel Lewis
GRANTON - Well, 'Snow' seems to be included in most conversations
as of Sunday morning. Some people get snowed in, others get snowed out.
I experienced both on Sunday morning. Having walked to church (which
is not very far) I had difficulty getting out to the street which wasn't any
better when I did get there. Then, before I came home the snow plough put
all the snow which had been on the street in front of my place, including
the driveway. So I had a bigger job getting back in the house than I had
-getting out, if you get the drift. However, Wilfred Riddell happened to be
blowing out driveways just about then and my neighbours shovelled a
track out front and soon everything was back to normal.
Sympathy from the community is extended to the family of George
Thomson in the loss of their brother who died at Victoria Hospital, Lon-
don on Friday. George had been a resident of the Country Terrace Nursing
Home in Komoka for the past number of years.
On Sunday. January 9 the Community Bible Church young people suc-
cessfully hosted thc very popular dessert theatre. Supporters ignored the
New Year exercise trail for some fancy desserts and great family entertain-
ment. Ail of the skits and food were for a good cause: to help with the ex-
penses for Snowflake '94, a fabulous youth retreat to be held just after stu-
dents' exams, February 4-6 at Muskoka Woods Sports Resort. Arca young
people can call the Youth pastor, Tim Gregg at the church for information.
At the St. Thomas' Anglican Church on Sunday, January 9, the Rev. Ste-
phen Emery celebrated the Holy Eucharist. His message was about ac-
knowledging Jesus as the Messiah, trusting and serving Him.
The annual vestry meeting is scheduled for next Sunday, January 16 fol-
lowing the church service.
At the Granton United Church on Sunday, Pastor Normalie Voakes' ser-
mon was entitled This Sure and Certain Love' based on the lessons from
Genesis I, Acts 19 and Mark 1. The anthem by the choir was 'Healer of
Broken Hearts'.

Unit one met on Thursday, January 6 at noon for a luncheon at the home
of Doreen McRobert. As president, Doreen led thc worship on the theme
'Turn a new page' with lesson thoughts from Philippians 3 verses 13 and
14.
Thank you notes were read and plans were discussed for the new year.
These included a 'Mothers and Others' luncheon in May and the Talent
Auction in March was discussed.
Amelia Jameson presented the program on the New Ycar and Epiphany
when she read 'My Wish for you all in '94' and 'Time is a gift from God'.
Unit three met at Joan Hayden's home on Tuesday evening, January 4.
Elizabeth Garrett and Joan were in charge of the program when Elizabeth
read Too much, too soon'. The words my and mine are used too frequent-
ly. 'This is My Father's World' was sung and Psalm 23 was said in unison.
Joan read an article from Canadian Living about the Garner family from
Emhro. !994 has been declared the Year of the Family. The Ger family
is very musical and have performed either on or behind stage in Stratford
in the Pirates of Penzance.
Joan also gave some ideas on how to get along with teens and things that
can be done as a family, closing with a New Years poem 'Strengthen'.
Elizabeth read an article about 'Woodpiles' and a New Years prayer.
As president, she also led the husiness discussion when the group decid-
ed to make turkey pies at the church on January 14. Orders can be given to
Marion Thmyon. Plans are to make some more for the talent auction in
March. A potluck supper is upcoming later in January for husbands and
guests. Elizabeth and the hostess served lunch.
Unit five members are in the process of quilting another quilt in place of
having a regular meeting.
