LUCAN - A little bad weather
wasn't going to keep Greg DePrest
away from the Lucan Arena last
Wednesday night.
•
In front of a very large crowd
who were enjoying Lucan Minor
Hockey Association Night, DePrest
scored the winning goal as the Irish
slipped past the visiting Exeter
Hawks 8-7.
DePrest's shorthanded marker
came with just five seconds left in
the game and it lifted the Irish into
a tie for second place with the Mt.
BrAttritt
ydges Bulldogs in the OHA Jun-
ior Development League's west di-
vision.
The Bulldogs took on Alvinston
on the weekend while the Irish are
idle until they host Mitchell Hawks
tonight at 8:15 p.m.
"The puck slipped past their de-
fensemen and I picked it up," De_
Prest described the goal. "It got
caught up in my skates and
(Dwayne ) Price passed it over. I
was just in the right place at the
right time."

Last year's league leading scoret,
DePrest missed the first couple of
shifts of Wednesday's game be-
cause his car broke down in Lon-
don due to the bad weather.
"He didn't get here until after the
game started. His car quit and his
mom picked him up," said Lucan
coach Ken Needham who was
pleased his top'i entre was able to
get to the game.
While DePrest netted a pair of
go11s, Rrice was a huge factor in
this game as he scored once and
added four assists for a big five -
point night.
"It was a lot of hard work by
Price to get the puck to him," said
Needham.
Also scoring for the winners were
defensemen Ed VanKerkoerle with
two and Aaron Moran with one.
Centre Mike Reid scored and cap-
tain Andy Ross moved back to play
on the blueline also connected.
Lucan was without defensemen
Craig Brown, Keith Robson, Dave
Mancari and Colin Kowal-
chuck.That left VanKerkoerle, Mo-
ran, call up bantam -aged Corey
Smith and Ross.
"We were hurting for some de-
fensemen which cost us. There was
some bad goaltending by both
teams," said Needham.
Stuart Ashton started in net for
the Irish but after a good save on
Todd McCann re-injured his groin
and was replaced by Steve Watson.
"We know we can score goals but
we have • + stop more," observed
N. . 1.
For the . wks it was their sec-
ond one -goal loss in as many nights
as they were nipped by Mt. Brydg-
es 5-4 the night before.
Hawks' centre Sean McCann
pumped in two goals and set up
four more for his best offensive
night since November 19 when he
also had a six -point performance
against North Middlesex.
"We've got the talent and we'll go
a long way in the playoffs but right
now we're not playing together,"
laid Exeter coach George Pratt.
Shayne Robinson had two goals
and three assists while Todd
McCann had a goal and set up two
others. Also scoring were defens-
men Dave Dalrymple with his fifth
and Jason McQrriide's shot from the
defenseman point netted him his first of the sea-
son.

SEAFORTH - Anything can hap-
pen on any night in the OHA Junior
Development League - just ask the
Exeter Hawks.
Following a pair of losses earlier
in the week, the Hawks bounced
back on Sunday to beat the tough
Seaforth Centenaires 6-1. The win,
the Hawks 14th, comes after one -
goal defeats to Lucan and Mt.
Brydges.
"We knew they had small for-
wards and we had to hit them," said
George Pratt.
Called up from the RSD Midget
Generals, goalie Darren Kints
played another strong game be-
tween the pipes. Offensively, roo-
kie forward Nathan Burns had a big
game as he scored four goals, three
of them on the powerplay.
For the Hawks who led 2-0 after
the fust period and 5-0 after 40
minutes, Jon Schiedel and Ray
Cousineau also scored with two as-
sists each to Mark Livermore, Sean
McCann and Shayne Robinson.
Last night the Hawks tried for a
little revenge against Bulldogs in a
game in Exeter and Friday night
host the Belmont Pests. The Hawks
travel to Alvinston on Sunday for a
3:30 p.m. game with the Flyers.

After coming off a big win
against Mitchell, Exeter looked as
though they were still riding a high
against Mt. Brydges last Tuesday
night in Exeter.
Although they trailed 1-0 after
the fust period, Exeter pulled even
3-3 after 40 minutes. However, a
few illnesses and Shakey defensive
play met the Hawks were handed
their ninth loss of the season.
"It was frustrating. We had some

good scoring chances. The guys
didn't seem to have as much spark,"
said Pratt.
At least two of the visitors goals
came from not picking up the man
in front of Kints who made the first
stop but couldn't control the re-
bound.
"We had poor coverage on re-
bounds in front of our net. Our cen-
termen weren't covering the man in
front and it resulted in two goals,"
said Pratt.
Centre Sean McCann had at least
three good scoring chances, twice
Bulldogs goalie Darryl Reddy got
his stick out to knock the puck
away and on another attempt,
snatched a shot out of the air which
was very close to sneaking under
the crossbar. •
"He (Reddy) was hot. We had a
lot of point blank shots that I
thought were going to be goals,'
said Pratt.
The Mt. Brydges goalie was cer-
tainly the difference in this game as
he turned away 23 saves compared
to Kints who made 19.
Late in the game, the Hawks
were down 5-4 and had a good
chance to tie it up when Cousineau
went in alone but rattled one off the
crossbar.
Although Cousineau had two as-
sistt the night, he and a few oth-

In both games, Exeter's Kirk Du-
rand was in net. Wednesday he had
no backup as rookie Chris Lyndon
was still on holidays and Darren
Kints practiced with his team the
RSD Midget Generals.
Durand made ssqypn a big stops in
the second period %eluding a glove
grab on Price's breakaway and a
Shawn Fairweather backhander.
However he did look Shakey on
VanKerkoerle's fust which was
lobbed high into the air dropping
into the net behind a surprised Du-
rand.
"I thought they (Lucan) had a lot
of soft goals. As for the rest of
them, it wasguys who should
have been cored in front of the
net," said Pratt.
In Wednesday's game, it ILs 2-2
after the fust period and 5-5 follow-
ing 40 minutes of play.
Down a goal with 35 seconds left
in the game, Pratt pulled Durand
for the extra attacker and it payed
off as McCann notched his 24th of
the year.
On the play, Lucan's Jeremy Je-
mec was given a penalty and he
went to the box and watched De-
Prest score the winner.
Notes:...Both teams had a famil-
iar face in the Bacup as Dan Ryan
returned for the Hawks and Jim
Stanton who got an assist suited up
for the Irish. The fourth game be-
tween the two teams is January 28
in Exeter.

er Hawks' were feeling ill. Pratt
said defensemen Mark Lynn was
balding off a bout of pneumonia.
In the final period, the Hawks
bench was shortened as Pratt went
primarily with two lines and four
defensemen. Of the four blueliners,
veterans Jamie Cornish and captain
Dave Dalrymple saw a lot of ice.
Ervine Abdulove scored two
powerplay goals for the visitors
with the others from Lance May-
brey, Shane Harrison and Scott
Sturdy.
Burns scored the first Exeter
goal at the 8:36 point of the middle
frame after some fine work by line -
mate Schiedel. While being pushed
against the boards behind the Mt.
Brydges net, Schiedel managed to
get the puck out front to Burns who
netted his 15th of the season.
Cousineau did a lot of work to
get the puck to Steve Farquhar who
let go with a low shot which at the
time, knotted the score at 2-2. Exet-
er never did have the lead in this
game as they always cane back to
tic it up but could not go ahead.
Todd McCann managed to get his
stick down between a Bulldogs' de-
fcnsmcn's legs just enough to get to
the puck to put it past Reddy. Sev-
en minutes into the third period
Livermore got right in front of the
net to score his 11th.
