ding to take place Saturday,
January 8, 1994 at Exeter
United Church. Following the
wedding the couple will take
up residence in Rio de Janei-
ro where the groom is em-
ployed by Coca Cola. •

begin the new year
THAMES ROAD - At Sunday's Thames Road United Church serve' --
the Responsive Reading was "Joyful Adoration" taken from the Green
Service book.
The choir sang "Songs of Joy" accompanied by organist Erin Kraftcheck
and the children's hymn "Pass It On" was sung followed by the children's
story.
The Scripture lesson, Jeremiah 31: 7=14, Ephesians 1: 3-14 was read by
Lorne Ballantyrfe and Rev. Jim Allsop read from the Gospel of John 1: I -
18.
The title of Rev. Allsop's sermon was "Jesus: the word, the light, the
life."
The service closed with the singing of "Saviour, Again Thy Dear
Name.

The Thames Road UCW will meet Ja,.uary 10 with Pat Ballantyne, Vir-
ginia- Warwick, Anne Bray and Marg Stewart conducting the pro-
gram.Roll call is "I wish I had time to....".
Personals
Get well wishes are extended to Bev Alexander who underwent surgery
recently, and also to Betty Ann Lamport who also underwent surgery re-
cently.
Agnes Bray accompanied her brother-in-law and sister Mark and Elsie
Strapp of London to Calgary where they visited Graham and Laurie Ben-
nett over the Christmas holiday. Laurie is the Strapp's daughter.
Lawrence and Val Kellett and Nicole of Edmonton spent the Christmas
Holidays with his mother Hilda Kellen and they all spent Christmas day
with Steve and Carolyn Knight and girls of Hensall.

'Open house and birthday party in Zurich

ZURICH - Everyone is invited to
help Annie Finkbeiner celebrate her
90th Birthday at an open house to
be held at St. Peter's Lutheran
Church Hall on Sunday from 2-4
p.m.
The Zurich Golden Agers will be
meeting this coming Monday after-
noon at 2 p.m., at the Hay Town-
ship hall. They are also planning to
have another card party, progres-
sive euchre, at the Township hall
on January 17 at 7:10 p.m. Admis-
sion at the door will be $2 with
lunch and all are invited.
The St Boniface Knights of Co-
lumbus Council are planning to
have their annual bowling tourna-
ment at the Town and Country
Lanes in Zurich on January 15 at
8:30 p.m. Only 24 couples can par-
ticipate and the cost is $30 per
couple. To register call Doug De -
bus at 236.4419.
The St' Boniface PTA will be
having a family skating party at the
Zurich arena on January 16 from 2-
4 p.m., and everyone is welcome.
Children in town had many acuv-
ities to choose from over the holi-
days including free skating, hot
chocolate and popcorn provided by
the Optimist Club.
There were also many activities
for those attending the New Year's
Eve family night at the Zurich are-
VARNA - The Varna U.C.W.
meets Thursday, January 6 at 8
p.m. at the home of Margaret
Hayter.
Varna's Annual Church meeting
will be held January 23 following
the service. Goshen's will be held
January 30.
The Trends Youth Group have
been discontinued but Miriam
Jones has offered to lead the 10-13
year olds in Varna -Goshen. Jones
would like to know what night
would be appropriate for everyone
and a volunteer helper would be ap-
preciated.
The New Year's Eve Dance held
at the Complex sponsored by the
Stanley Township Rec Committee
was a success. The Rec Committee
wishes to thank those who support-
ed them and are meeting soon to
get other plans underway for this
coming year 1994!

Recent meetings
The Lions Club held their annual
Christmas meeting and Ladies
night on December 20, with a good
turn out. Following the meal was a
gift exchange and social. Invited
guests included the recent winner
of the Lions Club stag night Clar-
ence Rau and wife Sharon.
_The Lions made a motion to pur-
chase 15 red hockey jerseys for the
Pee Wee team along with 15 pair of
stocking to match.
Their most recent meeting was
held at 7 p.m., on. Monday.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Pat Bedard
who won $2,600 from a lottery just
before Christmas.
And to Donna Finch who was the
. winner of the 5500 shopping spree
at Seyler's Food Land before
Christmas. The event was spon-
sored by the Zurich Optimist Club.
Also to town winners of the
Christmas home decorating contest
sponsored by the Chamber of Com-
merce. First place was Fred and
Audrey Haberer, honourable men-
tion went to Jim and Veronica Bed-
ard: Art and Pauline Miller, Doug
and Betty -Anne O'Brien; and Karl
Haberer. -

their 70th 'wedding anniversary on

Visiting
Douglas Klopp recently returned
home after a five-week trip which
included New Zealand and Austra-
lia.
Danny and Derek Masse are
home in Zurich visiting their par-
ents
Visitors at the home of Danny
and Cheryl Lalonde this past week
were his parents from Ottawa.
Many from the Zurich area were
busy travelling during Christmas
and New Yews including Neil and
Melissa Francis along with Kristin
and Aaron from Orleans, near Otta-
wa, spent Christmas with parents
Mozart and Marie Gelinas and rela-
tives.
Pat and Barb O'Connor from
Lake Bluff, Illinois spent the past
two weeks visiting with mother
Gerry Kane.
Glen and Marg Neeb and Lionel
and Rebecca recently spent a few
weeks in Florida and returned
home in time for Christmas.
Marion Becker spent a week at
Christmas time with her son Don
and wife Leslie.
Jerome and .Helene Ducharme
and family were visited by daugh-
ter Tracy and husband Wayne
Lockhart who came along with
twins from Sherwood Park, Alber-
ta.

lies celebrated Christmas Day to-
gether at the Si. Boniface Parish
hall. .
The families of Peter and Theresa
Bedard of Hensall held their Christ-
mas dinner at the Dominion Tavern
on Boxing Day as well as the fami-
ly of Jerome and Helene Du-
charme. As did Theresa Stark with
her children and grandchildren
from Windsor, St Thomas and
Goderich.

Special events in Hensall
HENSALL - The week before
Christmas was filled with special
events at Queensway! Lunch Club
members of the month enjoyed
grilled ham and cheese, and home-
made blueberry pie.
Rev. Mike Stahl from Exeter
Pentecostal Church, and his wife
held a beautiful Christmas service
for us on December 21.
Residents and volunteers enjoyed
a delicious hot chocolate party.
Everyone had fun creating their
own drinks with marshmallows,
whip cream and chocolate sprin-
kles. Joyce Pepper played the piano
for our Christmas sing song. As the
snow was falling outside this
seemed to put everyone into the
Christmas spirit.
On Christmas day, Santa Claus
took time out of his busy schedule,
to come into Queensway and deliv-

CEN'IRAL1 - A full church
was the setting for the Christmas
Eve Candlelight and Communion
service held at the Centralia Unit-
ed Church. Many favorite carols
were sung between the readings
and reflections read by the teenag-
ers of the Zion West and Centralia
Churches. Marjorie Johns accom-
panied the Centralia choir as they
sang the piece titled "Marys Boy
Child". The collection was given
to the children of Bruce Mills who
lost their -possessions in a fire prior
to Christmas.
The Centralia UCW will meet
Thursday, January 6 at 8 p.m.

Wednesday January 5, the church
stewards will meet to discuss and
plan upcoming events in 1994 and
the official board will meet
Wednesday, January 19 at 8 p.m.
in the Centralia Church basement.

party held at Heywoods Restaurant

McRoberts, ladies lone hand - Hel-
en MacDonald. Men's high - Mur-
ray Carter, mens lone hand - Adri-

watched a televised church service.
Wednesday afternoon was movie
matinee time, and many people
were entertained with the movie
called White Fang.
Due to bad weather and the flu,
the December Birthday Party was
cancelled and will be celebrated
sometime in January.
