Mitchell's Rob Jarmuth pulled the
hosts to within one with 6:05 left in
the first. In the fairly even second,
Seat McCann, Todd McCann and
Jon Schiedel scored for the winners
while Kory Dieu and Rob Boville
answered for Mitchell.
Boville's goal gave Mitchell a lit-
tle boost as it came with just 33
tines left on the clock. But the
home team couldn't connect in the
third and Nathan Bums added an
insurance mariner for Exeter.
The game was a very physical
one as referee Dave Marsh handed
out well over 100 minutes in penal-
ties. Exeter will be without the ser-
vices of rookie forward Shane Mac-
Donald for several games as he
received a spearing penalty.
With two straight wins behind
them, 'the Hawks hosted the tough

MITCHELL - So far the Eiteter
Hawks have played 23 OHA Junior
Development League games in the
1993-94 season. Of those, there is
little doubt last Wednesday's game
in Mitchell was the biggest victory.
Against the defending provincial
champions, the visiting Hawks
skated to a huge 6-3 win, picking
updheir 13th win of the season.
If 13 is supposed to be bad luck,
it certainly wasn't for Exeter who
led 2-1 after the fust period and
had a commanding 5-3 cushion af-
ter 40 minutes.
"It was by far our best game
we've played thus far," said Exeter
coach George Pratt. "Everyone
worked as hard as they could and
we were physical."
An aggressive style of game is
something the Hawks.- have been
lacking lately and that has been
what both Prau and assistant Dan
Preview
Mudge have been looking for.
"1 told the guys before the game
we weren't physical enough," said
Pratt.
Handing Mitchell only their sec-
ond loss of the season, was a bit of
a surprise but how Exeter accom-
plished it was also a little alarming.
Veteran goalie Kirk Durand was
absent as hts suffered an injury in
the Dec. 18 game against Belmont
and rookie Chris Lyndon was away
visiting family in Alberta.
That meant Pratt had to call up
Darren Kints from the'RSD midget
Generals and Xints had to go it
alone as .there was no backup on
the bench.
"Kints was the number one star
of the game," said Pratt. The mid-
get has been in a couple of games
and in the 41 minutes he played
prior to Wednesday's game had not
allowed a goal.

Injuries plague Irish blueline, but manage 5-2 win
By Fred Groves
T -A staff
LUCAN - The new year could mean a very big challepge for the Lucan
Irish.
While they head into 1994 in second place in the OHA 'Junior Develop-
ment League's west division. their is a lot of uncertainty about this club.
Last Wednesday in a 5-2 win over the visiting Alvinston Flyers, the Irish
were plagued with injuries on the blueline and as a result, only dressed
Mime regular defensemen.
"'We could be short for a while," said Irish coach Ken Needham. "(Dave)
Mancari was operated on tonight and he'll be a couple of weeks. (Colin)
Kowalchuk may need surgery on his thumb."
Mancari was on the receiving end of a couple of very hard punches to
the nose in a recent game with the North Middlesex Stars. Also missing on
Wednesday was big rookie Aaron Moran who was out with a pulled groin.
Corey Smith was called up once again and once again the youngster
looked very sturdy as he was one of just four blueliners dressed for the
game.
Needham is also concerned about the lack of effort and the not overly
pleasing attitude coming from the green -and -white.
Also still on the injured list are Scott Riddell and high -scoring winger
Steve Moore, both are indefinite to when they will be able to return.
"That's a lot of punch out of the lineup but we've got guys that can do
the job," said Needham.
Among those picking up the slack are winger Travis Stinchcombe who
scored two goals on Wednesday and was very instrumental in setting up a
third.
"Travis Stinchcombe has played very well the last three games," said
Needham.
Lucan trailed 1-0 after the fust period as Alvinston's Marc Tyler scored
just five seconds into a Flyers' powerplay.
In the opening 20 minutes several of the Irish players tried to stick han-
dle their way into good scoring position instead of passing the puck.
"We had a very poor turnout for practice on Monday and some guys
hadn't skated in the past four or five days."
The hosts came out strong in the second period as Steve Matthews bar-
reled down the left side and slipped it over to Mike Robb who one timed it
past Matt DanBrook.
But before you could blink, Alvinston's Mauy Thompson made it 2-1.
However that would be the last puck that would get by Lucan's Steve Wat-
son.
With nine seconds left on a powerplay, Stinchcombe got his first of the
night when he let one go from the point. Matthews did a good job causing
commotion in front of the net.
Centre Mike Reid scored what proved to be the winner when he crossed
in front of Danbrook and got the goalie to go down. Reid, who took a
short pass from Stinchcombe put it up high.
With a slim one -goal lead, Watson made a huge sliding pad save tin Lin-
coln Dolbear which stopped the game from being tied.
Dwayne Price went in alone to make it 4-2 and with the net empty,
Stinchcombe gave the Irish their 16th win of the season.
"That's a lot of punch out of our lineup, but we've got guys
that can do the job."
