As part of the recent agreement reached between the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) and the Canadian Amateur Hockey As- sociation (CAHA), _ all players which come under the OMHA ju- risdiction will have to cough up an extra six dollars for insurance. The other dollar, according to Exeter Minor Hockey Association's Dennis Kints goes to the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF). "I think it's sort of a registration me thing," said Kints on the dollar which goes to the OHF. Rick Vivian of the Western Onta- rio Athletic Association (WOAA) said the one dollar that goes to the OHF is for administration. "I don't think the final details have been worked out, they're go- ing to renegotiate," he saki. What this means is that local mi- nor hockey associations in Luaan, Stephen Township, Exeter, Hensel) and Zurich will all have to pay out more money. In the case of the EMHA, their executive looked ahead and bud- geted for the additional amount so parents won't be ;soaked for more cosi an adiIRo doftars money. Kints explained that last year in- surance cost EMHA per participant five dollars and they heard it might be bumped to as high as S20 so they budgeted for a total of $15. "We already had it budgeted, that's why we had the money, he said. However, while the EMHA may have had the foresight to look ahead, Vi OAA centres which inn n Township, Hensall and Zurich may not have. "The smaller centers are going to have a hard time coming up with the money. That meeting is scheduled for January 10 and centres have until January 15 to pay the added cost. At Stephen Township, treasurer Diane Finkbeincr said that their as- sociation also realized the cost of insurance was going to go up, so they budgeted for it; but it took a little extra work. "It's going to dip into our pocket book. We had to have an additional tournament to pay for it," she said of the Oldtimers' tournament which was a fundraiser. Mediator needed: The dispute between the OMHA and OHF who sanctions minor hockey tourna- ments on behalf of the CANA, be- gan a year ago when the OMHA jumped away from the CAHA's ju- risdiction in protest of the estab- lishment of one body - the OHF to administer all amateur hockey in Ontario. On Nov. 30 the provincial gov- ernment stepped in and under the direction of Minister of Culture, Tourism and Recreation Anne Swarbrick appointed a mediator to settle the dispute.
