Annual hayride for children GRANTON - The Granton Fire- men held their 18th annual hayride for area children on Sunday after- noon, starting at the park pavilion. Upon returning, they had a visit with Santa at the Lion's Hall and enjoyed refreshments. The St. Thomas' A.C.W. had breakfast at the North Star Restau- rant in Elginfield on Monday morning, December 13. Cathie led the business discussion which followed. At St. Thomas' Anglican church on Sunday, the nine lessons and carols service was held, led by Rev. Stephen Emery. The Advent candles for peace, Hope, Joy and Love were lit by Amy Harrison, Andrew Herbert, Betty Ann Waugh and Ken French. The lessons which were interspersed with the singing of carols were read by Terry Herbert, Scott Hodgins, Paul Acres, Jenine French, Ken French, Philip Hod- gins, Betty Ann Waught, Helen Hodgins, and Robert Parkinson. A pot luck dinner followed the service. The Christmas Eve service on Friday December 24 is sched- uled for 8:30 p.m. At Granton United Church on Sunday, Pastor Normalie Voakes' sermon topic was "Mary's Amen - and our own." The Advent Candle was lit by George and Alice Hales. The choir sang "The Christmas Lullaby". A Christmas Eve service will be held at Wesley United Church at 7:30 p.m. U.C.W. - Ie , ner-^ea•Nors WWi4's home last Monday afternoon, De- cember 13. Leader Marilyn Hum- phries read from Psalm 136 and the devotional theme was the Christmas Symbol, Gifts from Christ. Business discussion includ- ed the general meeting and during the program each one read some- thing about Christmas. Following the benediction and grace, the hostess served lunch. The general UCW meeting . was held last Tuesday evening Decem- ber 14 commencing with a potluck supper at the church. After this, Pastor Normalie Voakes was pre- sented with a gift certificate by Margaret Bryan from the UCW in appreciation for her leadership and encouragement. Bakelaar Jeweliers The program then continued up- stairs in the church auditorium with Unit 2 in charge. Sherri McRobert read the Christmas story which was interspersed with carols sung in two solos by Diane Die- trich and Ruth Cook and a duet by Lisa Humphrey and Kelly Waters. Judy ONeil read a Christmas story about "Papa's Angel", followed by prayer. April Bryan .c1sited the usual businesi`isifd'tl'1994' Ware of officers was elected as follows: president, Marilyn Humphrey, 1st vice president Doreen McRobert, secretary Diane Dietrich and treas- urer Margaret Bryan.
