Christmas theme ably - the values
of Christmas, the traditional
warmth so meaningful to young
families. She enlarged on the find-
ings of warmth and joy that eminat-
ed from routine Christmas activity.
We should encourage these practic-
es that they may pass on to future
generations.
Present day advertising and over
done celebrations lose their value
in their extravagance and exaggera-
tion. If advertisers only knew how
little effect their mailings have on
the shoppers and what nuisance it
costs the householder!
Music was provided by Margaret
Christie. Ilia read "Christmas Cus-
toms". Vella Mahon chaired the
business. Gwen Christie was
named to arrange for tuning of the
piano. The United Church Women
will be responsible for the Christ-
mas Birthday cake, to be served on
Christmas eve. During the year, Le-
ona Elliou has mailed cards to the
ill and bereaved to a total of
$15.00.
The organization will remember
shut ins at Christmas with cards,
and propose to move their visit to
the Valentine's season.
There will be a meeting January
12 at 12:30 noon with a potluck
meal and the programme will be

A bountiful potluck diaster pre-
ceeded the Christmas rnefidng of
the Staffa Women's lnstitifte, held
in the township hall on Tuesday at
12:30.
Planners for the event were Vette
Mahon and Margaret Kemp. Christ-
mas decorations at the door and at
the front of the hall along with
lighted candles on die table made
everything very festive.
Joyce Miller presided for the
meeting opening with the Institu-
tute Ode and Mary Stewart Collect,
with Margaret Kemp accompany-
ing on the piano. Minutes and cor-
respondence was read by secretary
Lillian Douglas and Verle', Mahon
gave the treasurers report. A letter
was read from the Weavering
Wornen's Institute in Kent, Eng-
land.
Staffa and Weavering have corre-
sponded for many years and ex-
changed calendars and small gifts
at Christmas. Unfortunately their
letter stated that their Institute ex-
pected to disban at the end of the
year as they are unable to fill their
slate of officers for 1994. A sad sit-
uation, but one which is very com-
mon here in Ontario as well.
Kay Smale and Joyce Miller re-
ported on the course in tee-shirt
painting held recently in Mitchell.
We are hoping they will demon-
strate and help others at a future
meeting.
Freda Kerslake reported on the
drapes. We decided to line them,
with assistance from a lady in Sea -
forth.
Roll call was answered by thir-
teen members and one visitor, by
singing, saying or playing. A enjoy-

Frostbite is body tissue that's frozen and even dead
in severe cases. To treat, don't rub the skin with
snow. Never massage the frost-bitten area. Warm
the area by soaking in warm water (about 101 de-
grees F or 38 degrees C) for 45 minutes. It is im-
portant to restore circulation in the area quickly.
Beta -carotene has been hot news recently because of Its purported dis-
ease -fighting ability. Did you know that pink grapefruit contains 100
times more betacarotine than white grapefruit?
If you have to take some really bad -tasting medication, try eating a bit of
ice-cream first. The cold numbs the taste buds and the bad taste Is not
as noticeable.
We 'h hear that North Americans don't consume enough fibre. Figs
are a great source. There are 9 grams of fibre in 5 dried figsl
