Christmas
carolling in
Centralia
CENTRALIA - The night was
clear. crisp and cold on Wednes-
day night as 34 voices rode in a
wagon throughout Huron Park and
Centralia singing Christmas songs.
After 1 1/2 hours of carolling,
steamy hot chocolate helped take
the chill off.
Thursday night the men rented
the ice at the Exeter Arena and en-
, joyed a game of hockey amongst
,.themselves. The young, the mid-
r:dleagc ' ' the older men; some
wit' some with just a
litti . of fun on the ice!
Women's Ministries hosted a
-baby shower for Rebecca Scott
-ksnd Mikala Crawford and their
moms at WM's monthly sualips
on Friday night. The Clam.
story was read and carols sung be-
fore Heather and Lori were pre-
sented with many beautiful gifts.
A Christmas Cantata by Strath-
roy Calvary Assemblies will be
jaggosed at the church on Thurs-
sdayiNghtat 7 p.m. It is entitled the

Christmas events at Blue Water Rest Home
ZURICH - Last Monday afternoon residents of the Blue Water Rest
Home gathered in the auditorium to watch the video "Free Willy" about a
young boy and his love of freedom for his friend, a whale.
Hurondale•Women's Institute hosted the December birthday party with
Gladys Richardson, District Director as. chairperson. Lois McFalls, presi-
dent read two humorous poems "Remember" and "When You Turn 65".
Maxine Sereda was pianist for the singing of "Away in a Manger," "Silent
Night" "Jingle Bells" and "We Wish you a Merry Christmas". Everyone
enjoyed Maxine'spiano solo "What Child is This?:
Helen Webber's granddaughter Brianne showed her skills at baton twirl-
ing. Barbara Passmore played a piano solo and Alma Etherington and
June Stewart joined in for a sing sing. Those celebrating birthdays in De-
cember were Dorothy Bapty, Violet Dunn, Greta Erb and Noel La Pone.
Wednesday evening many residents, joined the family and friends of
Percy and Emma Campbell in the celebration of their 65th wedding anni-
versary in the auditorium at BWRH. Genie Fleischauer, Ina Neeb and
Gladys Martin helped the family serve fancy cookies and fruit cake to the
guests. Many floral arrangements were received for the big celebration,
which helped set the mood. Earlier in the evening Percy and Emma joined
Centralia news
their family at Erb's Country Kitchen for an anniversary dinner.
Rev. Jack Patterson, Bayfield United Church conducted Thursday after-
noon's Chapel Service. This was Rev. Patterson's first service at the Home;
however he is very familiar with the Home as he visits his parishioners
Lloyd and Esther Makins regularly.
The Zurich Mennonite Girls' Club entertained the residents Thursday
evening with a fine selection of Christmas carols. Friday moming the audi-
torium was filled with the young voices of Hensall Public School and their
interpretation of the Christmas sprit.
Saturday Murray Keller, barber visited the Home and prepared all the
gentlemen for the Christmas season. Keller, Beth Dougherty and Joyce
McCarter keep the residents looking preuy during the year with pemns,
cuts and settings.
The family of Harvey Keys joined him and Julene in the auditorium on
Sunday afternoon for a pot luck supper and the opening of Christmas gifts.
Harvey has been a "good boy" this year and Santa was very kind to him.
Residents Rose Merner and Nelson Howe joined visitors Ron Tedball,
Doug Stephens and Glen Deichert Sunday afternoon to serenade the resi-
dents.
Sunday school skits performer

CENTRALIA - The Centralia
United Church Sunday School
held their Christmas`Coclt last
Friday, December 17 in the church
basement.
A large crowd was present to see
several skits performed by the
Sunday School and their teachers
and watched Jen, Jody, Leanne
and Kelly Cronyn along with Crys-
tal Knee and Crelene Duck per-
form several acrobat and dance
routines. Recitations were given
by Lindsay Powe, Justin and Ryan
Knee and crelene Duck. Mikayla
Skinner and Lindsay Powe gave
several piano selections. The
crowd also had the pleasure of lis-
.:tening to the music provided by
Ross McFalls on the guitar, Don
McCurdy on the banjo, Doug Ste-.
yens at the piano and Jack Wiles
on the violin. Mary Petersen and
Rob Essay sang several Christmas
songs with Rob accompanying
with his guitar. At the end of the
program, Santa joined the children
to get their last Christmas wish
and then prsented the children with
a beg of candy.
The Christmas Eve Candlelight
and Communion service . will be
held at the Centralia United Church
this Friday. December 24 at 8 p.m.
Everyone welcome. A special of-
fering will be taken during the ser-
vice to assist the children who re-
cently lost their mother and their
possessions in a fue.

sister Lydia Daugharty of St.
Thomas passed away several
weeks ago. Also sincerest sympa-
thy is extended to Marjorie and
Mack Mills and family, whose for-
mer daughter-in-law died . in a
house fire _ in Bracebridge aiest
week.
