EXETER - The evening unit o
EXETER - evening unit of
Exeter United Church met Decem-
ber 6 in the parlour with Grace
Drummond presiding. During the
business a thank you card from the
Arthur family was read and several
year-end reports were heard. It was
announced that once again there
will be two Christmas Eve services
at 7 p.m. - the family service and
11 p.m. - communion.
The worship service was opened
with "Silent Night". Marjorie Cole-
man, Barb Wein, Marie Brunzlow,
Alice MacLean and Barb Tiedeman
conducted a candle lighting cere-
mony based on some of the lesser
known characters in the Christmas
Story. Devotions, ,ended with an
old-fashioned sing song of favour-
ite Christmas songs.
There will be no Lost and Found
Club until Wednesday, January 5.
Tonight is Christmas carolling
throughout Huron Park and Cen-
tralia meeting at the McCurdy
school at 6:30.
WM meets on Friday night at
6:45 for their regular meeting fol-
lowed by the double baby shower.
A Christmas Cantata by Strathroy
Assemblies will be performed on
Thursday, December 23 at 7:00
p.m. at the church. It is entitled
"The Dawn of Redeeming Grace".
Come and enjoy a good evening.
Nursery facilities are available.
Christmas
drama held
in Varna
VARNA - Sunday December 12
was the lighting of the Third Can-
dle on the Advent Wreath at the
Varna Church service. Joan and
Heather Beierling lit it followed by
the Sunday School's White Gift
presentation.
This was titled "Las Posadas"
which was a Christmas drama
based on the hymn "Wailleiaag w
Bethlehem".
Valerie Laurie was narrator and
Kim Taylor was reader I. Graham
Laurie was reader 2 and Andrew
Laurie was Innkeeper I and Danny
Rathwell Innkeeper 2. Rick Per-
sons 1, 2 and 3 were played by
Danny Rathwell, Leanne Stephen-
son and Jason Beierling. The nur-
sery was dressed as Angels and a
Shepherd.
Michael Harris played Joseph
and Cara Stephenson was Mary.
Following this presentation and
the rest of the church .tsprvice the
concert continued.
Sunday School superintendent
Joe Laurie welcomed everyone
and directed the concert.
Danny Rathwell read a welcome
poem. We have many talented pia-
nists in Varna. Danny Rathwell
played Silent Night followed by
Graham Laurie with Rockin
around the Christmas Tree.
Danny Rathwell, Leanne and
Cara Stephenson sang "Christmas
Is Coming" and also played piano
music.
Melissa Harris and Amanda Elli-
ot sang "Away in a Manger".
Willie Laurie sang a song called
"Heirlooms."
Heather Laurie played the piano
with "Oh Come all Ye Faithful"
and "Dancing with the Sugar Plum
Fairy" and LeAnne Stephenson
played "Jolly Old St. Nicholas on
the piano.
Then Joe Laurie passed out a
quiz on Christmas carols which
everyone both young and old en-
joyed.
Christmas carols and songs were
then sung until Santa arrived to
give out presents.
pot luck lunch was then
served with a social time of fel-
lowship.
UCW
Goshen UCW will meet Decem-
ber 16 at 8 p.m. at the home of Lin-
da Linfield. Please save pictures on
greeting cards for the children in
Dr. Graham's Homes in India. Lin:-
da

Regular church services will be
on December 19 with a candlelight
service in Varna at 7:30 p.m. and
Chrisunas Eve service in Goshen at
7:30 p.m.
