Local 4-H club members recognized at awards night CLINTON - Several local 4-H Club members were top award re- cipients at a November 26 Awards Night held in Clinton. The evening featured 51 special awards, and 28 presentations of project awards. Steve Hendrick of RR2 Crediton received both the high point senior horse exhibitor award and the John Franken memorial trophy to having the highest score in all Huron County,4-H horse clubs (939 out of 1,0000). Hendrick is a member of the South Huron Bits and Bridles Club. Michael Hodgins of Exeter, also a Bits and Bridles member, re- ceived the Rodney VanEngen award for being the top novice horse club member, achieving a score of 888 out of 1,000. The Varna Feed and Faun Supply award for the novice 4-H goat club member with the highest score went to Julia Finlay of RR2 Zurich, a member of the Kids in Trouble Goat Club. Heather Becker of RR 1 Dash- wood won the Jan Hayward award for her outstanding effort in her 4- H goat club. • Melissa Prout, Brenda Miner, and Cassidie Davies were the third place recipients of the Signal Star Publishing award for 4-H press re- porting. In 4-H agricultural machinery clubs, Dennis Hodgins of RR2 Cre- diton won the Vincent Farm Equip- ment trophy for being the top mem- ber, and Erik Sorensen of Dashwood won the Huron County Junior Farmers award as the top novice member. The Neal McGavin award for having the highest score in the Hu- ron County Plowmen's Club went to Jason Gemmell of RR2 Kippen with 903 points out of 1,000. James McNaughton of RR3 Kip - pen won the Old Mill award for his score in 4-H sheep club competi- tion. Six project awards were present- ed to Dennis Hodgins of RR2 Cre- diton and to Kim Govers of Credi- ton. Twelve project awards went to Ken Betties of RR3 Kippen, Chris Weigand of RR1 Dashwood, and to Michael' Becker of RR 1 Dashwood. Kris McNaugton of RR3 Kippen received one of only two 30 project awards presented that evening. The other went to Marilyn van den El- zen of RR 1 Clinton. a Villa residents see parade EXETER - On Monday, Novem- ber 22, some members of the Sen- iors Club played bingo with the res- idents at Exeter Villa. Students of grades seven and eight of Precious Blood School vis- ited their adopted grandparents on Friday morning. The monthly birthday party was enjoyed on Tuesday afternoon with the Elimville Kitchen Band enter- taining. Rev. Jim Allsop led in the singing of Christmas carols. Re- freshments were served by volun- teers. The residents who celebrated November birthdays are Dorothy Davis, Margaret Dinney, Joe Bruce, Melvina Belanger, Gladys Black, Mary Radar, Myrtle Willis, •Lela Kestle, Steve Chanyi and Charles Merryfield. The weekly church service was held last Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Ed Laksmanis of Crediton bringing the message. Doug Lewis played the piano for the singing of hymns. The Exeter Legion Ladies Auxiliary played bingo in the eve- ning with the residents. Thanks to the Lioness the resi- dents took a bus ride uptown on Saturday to see the Santa Claus pa- rade. Despite the rain they enjoyed seeing all the floats, bands and San- ta. Residents, staff and families have taken time to decorate the Villa for Christmas. Everyone has done a great job to make it look like Christmas. The Villa welcomes new resi- dents Dorothy Patrick, Ella Max- well and Meine Eizenga all from Exeter. Students barn all about newspapers "1 think it would be fun to work at the. newspaper because you would be -one of the first people to know what is going on." It was really nice of you and Mrs. Lord to take time out and help us learn mare about what you do to put a newspaper together. I was very surprised when I saw how much equipment it took to makea newspaper. I liked the great big camera. You have a very inter- esting job. Thanks again. Brent Yearley I really enjoyed seeing how a newspaper is printed. I really liked the darkroom and how the. big camera worked. I've never been to the Times Advocate before and it was very interesting. I'm glad that my class and I were able to go. I think that it would be fun to work at the newspaper because you would be one of the fust people to know what is going on.
