ceive the tide of donations expected next week at the Huron
County Christmas Bureau. Toys, clothing, and mittens will be
accepted at the Exeter Christian Reformed Church from De-
cember 13 to 17 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. Chil-
dren up to 16 will be accommodated by the bureau, which is
also accepting cash donations so that needed items can be
purchased. Last year the Exeter Bureau handled 265 chil-
dren, compared to the countywide total of 1050 children in
need expected this year et all five bureaux.
No arrests yet
Bird theft tops- $24,000
EXETER - Police have made no arrests yet in the theft of exotic birds
from a Dashwood breeder.
Just after the Times -Advocate went to press last week, the Exeter OPP
updated its information about the crime, valuing the stolen birds at
$24,360. In all, 14 cockatoos were stolen from the barn of Frank Leish-
man in Dashwood overnight on November 27. Also stolen were nine par-
rots and a total of 35 canaries. The birds were of several different varie-
ties.
The OPP is continuing to investigate the theft.
Police are now investigating the cutting of the furnace oil line at the Cal-
vary United Church in Dashwood, which would have occurred sometime
that same weekend. Police say the line was cut using a "pinching" type of
:tool.
On November 30 at 8:40 p.m. a would-be thief was scared off from a
Frederick Street residence in Dashwood, white attempting to steal gas
from a vehicle parked there.
Thieves hit gas bar again
EXETER - Cigarette bandits

Thieves broke into the gas station
sometime Friday night. Entry was
gained through a window and cig-
areues valued at $1,000 were taken.
Damage to property amounted to
another $700 toss in the incident.
The station was the victim of a
similar theft only three weeks ago
on November 12.
In an unrelated incident tater that
day, police investigated a com-
plaint of mischief at the station in
which a car drove over the station's
lawn.
The CIBC branch in Hensel) has
reported the discovery of a counter-
feit $20 bill in its cash last Wednes-
day. Counterfeit bills have been
surfacing in the area, but only in
the $50 denomination. This is the
first -instance of a more common
$20 denomination being used by

56907110300, and police tat 911M-
tioning that counterfeiting tlWN%
to be Increasing. The fake bills,
which appear to be colour photo-
copies of originals, are only of the
older style of banknote, those with-
out the new foil anti -counterfeiting
applique in the upper corner.
On Thursday, Huron Tractor in
Exeter reported the theft of a third
link roar attachment for a tractor.
The item is valued at 5500.
