Volunteer of the week
A Times Advocate community feature
Edna Simmons
Edna Shnmons has been a long time volunteer with the Chil-
dren's Aid Society.
For more than 12 years she was busy almost every day of
the week with Children's Aid in addition to other volunteer ac-
tivities with organizations such as the Exeter Legion and Girl
Guides.
And in 1989, the Exeter woman was recognized for her ef-
forts with a provincial award called the Minister's Volunteer
of the Year Award.
Now, Simmons said, she has slowed down a little focussing
her time on supervising parentichild visits for Children's Aid.
She is also a foster parent and is active in her church as
well as various women's groups.
THAMES ROAD - A good crowd attended the White Gift Service per-
formed by the Sunday school. Robert and Kathy Bray, Vanessa, Kristy
and Jessica lit a candle in the Advent Wreath and all gave gospel readings.
Lori Richardson min the Prayer of Confession.
Derek Etherington read the Scripture Lesson John 1:1-5, 14-18. Vanessa
Bray led in the Responsive Reading.
The Sunday School performed a Christmas Pageant "A Dream Come
True" with Karen Etherington, Robyn Etherington, Heather Morgan, Kris-
ty Bray, Maggie Miller, Megan Parker, Brenda Miner, and Ryan Parker.
Diane Jeffery gave a Minute for Mission talk.
Amy and Ann Marie Hodgen received the offering. Erin Parker led in
prayer. The closing hymn was sung "I Am The Light of the World."
The flowers in the church on Sunday were placed there by the family of
the late Gordon Mayer. Sympathy of the community is extended to his
wife and family, his mother, brothers, sisters and their spouses and fami-
lies.
Coffee and cookies were provided by Agnes Bray and the Miller family.

By Jean Dann
GRAND BEND - Eighty mem-
bets attended the December lunch-
eon meeting of the 'Grand Bend
Golden Agers Club Wednesday at
the Royal Canadian Legion.
Members at the November meet-
ing had decided to have the usual
light luncheon for the December
meeting and instead of the tradi-
tional turkey dinner members
would bring donations of non-
perishable food to assist the Grand
Bend Lioness with their Christmas
food hampers. The idea turned out
to be a great success.
Grand Bend Public school grade
seven and eight classes entertained
after lunch with special Christmas
music and carols. Members then
enjoyed singing Christmas carols
led by member Larry Cole and ac-
companied by Annie Lyttle playing
the Club's Yamaha Clavinova.
President Ron Dann thanked eve-
ryone for helping to make every-
thing so successful and adjourned
the meeting for members to enjoy
carpet bowling, euchre etc.
The next luncheon meeting will
be at 12:30 Wednesday, January 5
in the Royal Canadian Legion hall.
Club activities include shuffle-
board Mondays 9-12 a.m. and 1-4
