Mohawks to take on NHL Oldtimers team
Ir
EXETER - Paul Henderson, Wayne Carleton, Jack Valiquette, Bill
Deriago, Andy Bathgate antfi9orm Ullman are just some of the National
Hockey League Oldtimers who will visit the South Huron Recreation
Centre on Sunday, November 27 at 7:30 p.m.
The professional stars of the past will take on the Exeter Mohawks of
the Southwestern Senior 'A' Hockey League in an exhibition game
which has been set up not only to previde good hockey entertainment
but to act as a fundraiser for the local club.
"It's great fun, they're very good at what they do," said Mohawks
coach -general manager Dave Revington. "They play 60 games a year
and they're difficult to book. I got them back in the summer."

Paul Henderson
While Henderson is remembered most for scoring the winning goal in
the 1972 Canada -Russia series he had 477 points over a 13 -year NHL
career. He played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings and
the Atlanta Flames.
Bathyt to is a former captain of the New York Rangers and winner of
the NHL's•Mbst Valuable Player Award. Ullman played 20 years in the
NHL and the Hockey Hall of Famers suited up for the Detroit Red
Wings as well as the Maple Leafs.
"They travel around, they're entertainers. We're paying them to come
in as a fundraiser," said Revington.
Tickets for the exciting event can be purchased from any Mohawk ex -

ecutive member. Cost is $6 in advance or $7 at the door and there is
only 1,200 tickets being sold.
Talk about entertainment, look for a few laughs especially with the
very popular Eddie 'Clear the Track' Shack as the referee. His well trav-
elled career saw stops in New York, Toronto, Boston, Los Angeles, Buf-
falo and Pittsburgh.
While the Mohawks will be slightly outgunned, don't be surprised if
you see some good matchups as Exeter's Joe Scherer, a former pro in the
minor leagues will try his best to score on NHL Oldtimers' goalie Peter
McDuffe.

Lucan Irish edge Stars, but fall to Mt. Brydges 3-2
By Fred Groves

LUCAN - If it wasn't for about
three minutes of decent hockey, the
Lucan Irish might not have won
last Wednesday night's game
against the visiting North Middles-
ex Stars.
A slim 5-4 ORA Junior Develop-
ment League win over the Stars, a
team just in the league for their
second season, brought a wave of
anger from -Irish coach Ken Need-
ham.

Last Tuesday in Aylmer, Tim

alineup and notched a pair of
shorthanded goals to Iift the visi-
tors to a 7-5 win over the Hor-
nets.
Although .il :ohawks strug-
gled in the di t)f#'rame, neverthe-
tless, coach Dave Revington was
pleased with the win.
• "I was surprised. We didn't
a:<have a very good lineup. I sure
i4idn't thunk we'd have a 7-2 lead
iiihe end of the second period."
Also scoring for the winners
were Joe Scherer and Wayne
lltbshott each with two and the
other from Richard Hawkins.
Uefenseman Jeff Warren played
well as tie added four assists.
"To be 3.1-1, I can't be happi-
er the way things were a month
ago," said Revington.
Tlx: Mohawks boosted the
:coaches words to even greater
heights three days later as they
sl travelled to Oshweken and
i.oWged the Riverhawks 5-4.
It's the second straight win

"There's going to be some chang-
es immediately," said Needham.
It was 2-1 for the Stars at the end
of the first period before the hosts
came back and went up 5-2 after 40
minutes. But like they did in the
first, North Middlesex dominated
in the third scoring twice.
"I've given them (Lucan players)
the benefit of the doubt and it's
time to do my thing," said Need-
ham.
The Stars yanked goalie Aaron
Lucas with 50 seconds left in regu-
lation time and came very close to
sending the game into overtime.
Lucan was missing half a dozen
regulars including sniper Steve
Moore and captain Andy Ross, but
those who were in the lineup cer-
tainly let Needham down.
Lack of discipline seemed to be
what hurt the Irish the most
Wednesday as defensemen Dave
Mancari was ejected for fighting
and in the third, winger Travis
Stinchcombe was tossed out for
kicking a downed North Middlesex
player.
"1 don't think I've ever seen any-
thing that stupid in all .my time in
hockey," said Needham of Stinch-
Jay Jackson of the Lucan Irish got past a North Middlesex defenseman on this play during last
Wednesday's game.
Exeter struggling, beaten twice
SEAFORTH - It was a long week
for the Exeter Hawks, dropping
both of their OHA Junior Develop-
ment League west division games.
Last Tuesday at home, the
Hawks, fell 4-2 to the defending
provinial champions Mitchell
Hawks and then on Friday in Sea -
forth, Exeter was beaten by a simi-
lar 4-2 count.
The pair of losses drops the
Hawks record to 8-5 as they have
lost three in a row.
In Seaforth the Hawks received
some good goaltending from Chris
Lyndon as he turned away 32 shots
but the Exeter offence couldn't get
going. Exeter trailed 2-1 after the
first period and their was no scor-
ing in the second frame.
For the visitors, Nathan Burns
and Shayne Robinson scored while
Paul McLlwain with two, Ted Sills
and Steve Mclnally answered for
the winners.
Mitchell 4. Exeter
Last Tuesday night goalie Kirk
Durand played one of his best
games in a Hawk uniform as he
turned away 29 Mitchell shots,
many of them possible goals.
However, the offence in front of
Durand, missing its leading scorer
Robinson couldn't get going and as
a result, the locals dropped their
fourth of the season:
Exeter couldn't get through the
Mitchell defensive plan as it took

a shot at Elliot Faust in the fust pe-
riod.
With 7:30 left in the opening
frame, Mitchell's Rob Jarmuth
jumped on a rebound to make it 1-
0 for the visitors. In the second,
rookie Steve Farquhar tied it up af-
ter some hard work by Bums.
Bums Willa huge hi on big Josh
Lamboum and that, combined with
some hustle from Greg Dalrymple
and Chad Gilfllan, started Exeter
going a little but not enough.
It was 1-1 after 40 minutes but
Mitchell's Jeremy Smith and Kory
Dietz scored 11 seconds apart and
Rob Boville scored to make it 4-1
before Exeter's Sean McCann net-
ted his 15th of the year.
combe's actions which will bring a
minimal four games suspension.
One of the few bright spots
Wednesday night was the effort of
Lucan rookie Jay Jackson as the
quick skater had one of the five
Irish goals.
"He still makes a a lot of mis-
takes, but he's only 16," said Need-
ham.
When the Irish turned it on
against the Stars it was an offen-
sive explosion.
After Parkhill had a 2-1 lead, the
Irish seemed to start hitting and
playing a physical game which
stopped the Stars' offence briefly.
"I didn't tell them to start hitting.
I just told them to play the game
the way they're capable of doing.
There's no magic," said Needham.
With 7:45 left in the second, Lu -
can tied it 2-2 on a nice 1-2-3 pass-
ing play completed by Mike Robb.
Greg DePrest had a lot of time to
deke Lucas and put it up and just a
minute later two more goals came
for the winners, one by Mike Reid
when he alertly walked in from the
slot and the other by Stinchcombe.
Scoring for North Middlesex on
the night were Rob Daniel, Nathan
McCann, Pete Gallagher and Brian
Mann.
Second Toss: Saturday night in
Mt. Brydges, the Irish saw their
record dip to 9-2-2 as they fell 3-2
to the Bulldogs.
Jeremy Jemec teamed with
Dwayne Price to make it 1-0 for
the Irish in the first but it was 2-1
for the hosts at the end of the sec-
ond.
The Bulldogs went up 3-1 before
Price scored for Lucan from De-
Prest and Moore.
Tonig's
Hawks will try to
get revenge from
earlier season loss
LUCAN - While the Ontario Hockey Association Junior Development
League season may still be in its early stages, four teams are beginning to
show they will probably dominate for the rest of the season.
Tonight, in Lucan at 8:15 p.m. two of those teams, the host Irish and the
Exeter Hawks will Meet.
The other two teams, Mitchell Hawks and Seaforth Centenaires have
given both Exeter and Lucan a hard time. But tonight, Mitchell and Sea -
forth will be forgotten, for the time being, as Exeter tries to win the second
game of the five meetings between themselves and Lucan.
Back on October 20, the Irish travelled to the South Huron Recreation
Centre in Exeter and returned home with a 5-3 win.
Heading into tonight's game, both teams are in somewhat of an unusual
situation as they have struggled in their last three gamest
Lucan may have a comfortable 9-2-2 record but in their last three games
have tied Lambeth, beat North Middlesex by a goal and lost to Mt. Brydg-
es. These aren't tough teams and Lucan should have won all three.
Hawks offence slowing down?
In the last three games, the Hawks have had a very rough ndc, meeting
Mitchell back-to-back and then Seaforth. All three games were close, but
Exeter lose
In the fust game against Mitchell, Hawks sniper Sh.iyne Robinson was
roughed up and did not play the next game. He was back to suit up against
Seaforth on Friday but he's not 100 percent.
Forward Nathan Burns is playing well for the Hawks but it seems the
rest of the team needs a kick start of some kind to get them going.
Goaltending has been first rate as both second -Year Kirk Durand and
rookie Chris Lyndon are doing their best to keep the puck out of the net.
Exeter Hawks: 8-5 (last five games, 2-3)
Lucan Irish: 9-2-2 (last live games, 2-1-2)
