40 trees planted
CREDITON - On 'may, -40
people gathered at Crediton Con-
servation Area to dedicate •the Aus-
able-Bayfield Conservation Author-
ity's new arboretum. The new forest
recognizes 40 years of tree planting
by the ARCA m cooperation with
municipalities, landowners and the
Province of Ontario.
The ceremony included the plant-
ing of four trees. Paul Kropp, MPP
'of Huron planted a white pine on
behalf of the Province. Tom Tomes
planted a Norway spruce on behalf

of the most active landowners in
the Reforestation Assistance Pro-
gram is Garry Van Loon of Hibbert
Township who planted a sycamore
tree.
The arboretum includes over two
dozen different tree and shrub spe-
cies - a combination of trees sold
by the ARCA and Carolinian For-
est species. It has been planted in
the shape of the Authority's area of
jurisdiction :with a nature trail to
represent the Bayfield and Ausable
Rivers. The arboretum will be a

Next year, the Authority hopes to
place markers to identify the trues.

The Arboretum is a cooperative
project thanks to the efforts of
ARCA staff, students from South
Huron District High 'School in Ex-
eter who planted the trees and the
Township of Stephen who manages
Crediton Conservation Area. '
