Grand Bend condos
plagued by water run-off
GRAND BEND - Perhaps one of
the biggest problems of any home
owner is water running on to the
property.
Riverbend Condos in .Oland
'_Bend are experiencing runoff water
which is coming not onlyrfronritte
adjacent mad, but off of neigh-
bour's properties as.*Cll.
Last Tuesday .night, Peter Cal-
vert, a director of Abe 'Riverbend
-Condos and Cliff. -Hodgins; a mem-
ber of the condo association came
to tomtit lookineftscasehttion.
'The condo association has asked
that Riverbend be allowed to hook
alp into the storm sewer trader
Highway 21.
However, there has been another
solution put forth and that is to
simply build a curb similar in size
to a speed bump which might stop
the water from going onto the con-
do property.
"We have to do something this
fall or it's going to hurt your road,"
said Grand Bend councillor Cam

He noted that the Ministry of
Transportation is willing to put up
$1,500 to help build such a barrier.
"They (MTO) , recognize it's a
problem," said Ivey.
Calvert'said a barrier would not
be a good enough solution and that
it might be a deterrent for elderly
pegplee getting around.
"fttere are .a number of retired
people in our community and we
don't.want them -to bein jeopardy,"
said Calvert.. -3. ., ;•
He also pointed out that residents
of the Riverbend Condos have paid
over $300,000 in taxes over the
past five years and hinted the vil-
lage has given them liUle in return.
"As a development, we pay a lot
of our own expenses," said Calvert.
He pointed out that the amount of
money the village pays towards the
Riverbend Condos wouldn't be
equal to that paid (towards one
house in a city.
Council decided to take a closer
look at the water problem and be-
fore Calvert and Hodgins left the
meeting, they gave the village a
rough drawing of what they would
like to see built.

Dayman said the Reform Party
has social programs that would pro.
vided funds needed of single moth -
t.
Crone said it is actually a provin-
cial issue but wondered where the
fathers where and what responsibil-
ity they were taking in the child's
life.
Farquharson said his party's pri-
ority is children being taken care of
by a paresnt not a day care.
Callender talked about the collec-
tive consciousness and how that
would lead to a flourishing econo-
my.
MP Pensions: Farquharson said
MP's shouldn't be able to collect
pension after two terms. "The Lib-
erals and Conservatives have had
ample time to change the plan and
haven't," he said.
Willis and Ur, Gubbels, Callend-
er, Dayman and Hamilton said the
pensions far exceed that of the pri-
vate sector and need to be brought
in line.
Crone said the issue should be
taken out of the hands of politicians
and then dealt with by an indepen-
dent body.
