The children's hymn was "sung "Jesus Loves Me" and Rev. Jim Allsop told the children's s ory "Friends and Friendship". Rev. All- sop read the scripture lesson Exo- dus 33:13-23, and Matthew 22:15- 22. The title of his sermon was "The Human and Divine Image." Coming events Next Sunday, October 24 is Elim- ville Anniversary at 10 a.m. Irene Richardson is the guest minister and Marylou Dixon is the guest so- loist. Following the service there will be a Pot luck dinner. There will be no services at Thames Road. On Friday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m. the Messenger Hallowe'en Party at Thames Road Church. Bring sandwiches or cookies. On Sunday, October 31 at 11 a.m. is the Thames Road Anniver- sary. Rev. Ed Laksmanis is the guest minister and the guest soloist is Cynthia Copeland. The community of nine area United Churches is planning a spe- cial evening filled with music and worsh on Sunday November 7 at Thames Road Church at 7 p.m. with orchestra and sing song ser- vice beginning at 7:30 p.m. Choir practice for a combined choir are October 24 and 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Thames Road. Personals Belva Rowe, Bill and Audrey Rowe, Brian and Janet Wedlake of More than 140 Items were up for bids on the silent auction Friday evening. More than $7,000 was bid on the items, altogether. VARNA - The Church Service on Sunday was in Goshen for their anniversary with minister Miriam Jones with the Call to Worship. Sunday, October 24 church servic- es will be as usual in both churches. The Trends Youth Group will meet October 21 at the Brucefield Church from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, October 24 there will be a Convenanting Service for Miriam Jones and the congregations of the Vama-Pastoral Charge are wel- come. This will be celebrated at 8 p.m. The Teen Set are asked to meet at the Varna Church on Octo- ber 24 at 7:45 in order to attend this convenanting service since this was .the next scheduled meeting. The tickets are selling fast for the Goshen Turkey Dinner Wednesday, October 27. There are tickets avail- able for 5 p.m. but not many left for 6:30 p.m. Please call Linda Linfield at 565-2124 if you wish to purchase -tickets. There will also be a talent "table at this supper. ARC Industries in Dashwood is - having a Dashwood Craft Show and Bake Sale Saturday, October .123 from 10 to 3 p.m. with lunch vailable. There will be over 20 vendors present. The crokinole club will be start- ing October 26 at 8 p.m. in the Var- na Church. The Recreation committee have planned another Hallowe'en Dance for Saturday, October 30 to be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with prizes for best costumes. There will be a DJ. and anyone wanting to pur- chase tickets can contact any mem- ber on the Stanley Township Rec Committee. Another family fun night has been planned for November 19 if Auctioneers Bert Lobb and Bob Heywood drew in some impressive bids for the 52 donated items for the live auction 81 -Friday's Playhouse Dinner. As many res- idents as possible participated in fun and fitness last Tuesday. The idea was to wear off any ex- tra calories from too much turkey and pie. Cordell Parsons from Exeter United Church was the minister for our worship service in the after- noon. Margaret Coates played the piano for us. It is always a special treat to have a resident available to use their special talents in order to benefit everyone. Geri Fashions from London spent the entire day at Queensway last Thursday. Several people were pur- chasing new clothing items for the fall and winter season. Some of the residents had fun participating in the afternoon fash- ion show: Martha Moody, Mildred Gingerich, Ruth Church, Aleida Kats,.and Muriel Gunning all mod- elled the latest fashions very nicely. Thank you to Eileen Rannic who I made a special trip to come in and model for us as well. The afternoon was enjoyable for all, especially those who won prizes. Last Friday was the special day of the week. Some residents experi- enced their first fall outing. We i picked a • beautiful day for a fall drive through 4the country. People re9lly appreciated viewing the fabu- lous colours of the autumn leaves. We ended the trip in Dashwood at Kaethe's Kaffee Haus. Everyone enjoyed hot coffee and homemade pie. A special thanks goes out to Dorothy Britnell and Margaret Cole for making this day possible. The week ended with a Saturday movie matinee. the iesidents watched a movie entitled "The Beat". The setting was gorgeous; it took place ih beautiful British Co- lumbia.
