EXETER - A first took place at
the South Huron Recreation Cen-
tre last Wednesday night.
The audience applauded as a
Boston Bruins' sweater, worn by
Exeter Minor -Hockey Association
product Dave Shaw, was unveiled
high above the ice surface:
Encased in plexiglass, the #34
sweater, worn by the National
Hockey League defenseman last
season, is there to remind young
players of the heights they can
reach in the sport of hockey.
t r
[hie Dave was not present as
he has started his ninth profes-
sional season, his father Bruce
and mother Fran were on hand to
help EMHA president Mike An-
stett clothe unveiling.
"He's very pleased and proud to
donate the sweater. He said the
town's been very good to him,"
said Bruce.
Dave is in his second year with
the Bruins and helped set up a
goal in that team's season opening
win. He's also played with Minne-
sota, New York Rangers, Edmon-
ton, and the team which drafted
high above ice 1
him, the Quebec Nordiques where
he spent three four years.
"He's aware of the hockey pool
and to tell everyone he's going to
have a good year," said Bruce of
the= centre's hockey pool.
Last year, Dave played in 77
games with the Bruins and had 10
.goals and 14 assists. He had one
shorthanded and one powerplay
goal and had 108 minutes in pen-
alties.
Looking up into the ratters and pulling the string to display
Dave Shaw's sweater are his parents Bruce Shaw, left; and
Fran Ellison and Exeter Minor Hockey Association president
Mike Anstett.
