EXETER - Last Wednesday night hockey made its reappearance after the summer break and for a couple of Exeter Minor Hockey As- sociation teams it was a great way to start the season. Coming off of wins in their sea- son opener, both the Peewee Le- gions and the Midget Generals easi- ly 'handled visiting Ilderton at the South Huron Recreation Centre. The Bantam Legionnaires weren't as fortunate however as they lost to Itderton, dipping their Shamrock League record to 1-1 while both the peewees and midgets sit at 2-0. Peewees dominate It was 3-1 at the end of the first period for the hosts as Scott Gilfil- lan teamed with Matt Szabo and Sean Guenther and then Jason Grenier scored unassisted. Brian Parsons got the third goal from Greg Geoffrey and Jeff Campbell. Big David Marshall scored a nat- ural hat trick, three in a row in the second period as assists on those went to Geoffrey, Cam Dougall and Tyler Bourne. Scott Keys made it 7-3 on a back- hander este teamed with Campbell and Szabo and just 15 seconds lat- er, Chad Monteith got the puck to trickle over the goal line as Grenier and Chad Dalrymple drew the as- sists. In the third period, Campbell teamed with Szabo and Brian Hay- man before Geoffrey scored from Bourne and Marshall. It only took 35 seconds to go down the rink. as Szabo connected from Campbell and Dougall. Rounding out the scoring late in the game were Campbell and Mon- teith while Szabo, Hayman and Grenier assisted. Scoring for Ilderton were Ashley Windrew and Ryan Baynham each with two goals and the other came from Matt Aris. Bantams beaten It was a tough night for the Ban- tam Legionnaires as they fell 5-2 to Ilderton. The visitors got on the board first when Bob Grant walked right in on Jason Lindenfield but just 31 sec- onds later, Exeter's Jeff MacLean teamed with Brian Richardson to even the count. Geoff Mayer gave the hosts a one -goal lead late in the second but it was 2-2 on Erick Fisher's goal. Although Exeter winger Rob ZMAA hosts Minor Hockey Day ZURICH - Having the ice go into their arena earlier this year, the Zu- rich Minor Athletic Association was able to host a Minor Hockey Day on Saturday. It was the first of it's kind and what it did was provide the local teams to tuneup for the Western Ontario Athletic Association sea- son which gets underway very soon. The ZMAA will have 10 lama this year in age groups from pre - tyke to juvenile. There is no midget team as several players have joined the juvenile squad while those of midget age are playing in Hensel'. 1 just made a decision we need- ed a day to feature our players on one day," said ZMAA president Bud Markham. Also scoring for Zurich were Matt .De- nomme and Jarrett Jeffrey. Bantam: Corey Wildfong scored for Zurich but they were beaten 11- 2 by Ilderton. joyenlig: Shane Pfaff .scooted three times to pace Zurich to a 4-3 win over Walkerton. ScoU Barclay had the other Zurich tally. Morrissey dished out some hard hits, Ilderton had three unanswered goals by Andy Marshall with two and Scott Watterton. The Exeter Bantam Legionnaires play host to Lucan tonight at 7:40 p.m. Generals make it two The Exeter RSD Sports Den Mid- get Generals made it two in a row and in both games have only al- lowed a single goal. Wednesday they handled Ilderton 9-1. Less than three minutes into the game, the Generals who had 19 shots in the first period, got on the board thanks to Ted Hoffman's un- assisted goal. It was 2-0 as defenseman Ben Armstrong had lots of time to tee it up before Ilderton's Craig MacKay went in on a breakaway and beat Darren Kints. Taking advantage of powerplay situations; the Generals made it 4-1 eckey on goals by Mary DeBruyn and Glen Hines. Chris MacDonald and Mark Bell set up DeBruyn. Craig Glavin scored shorthanded to make it 5-1 with help from Gil- fillan and with a two-man advan- tage, Gilfillan converted a nice passing play from Hoffman and Hines. Gilfillan and Hoffman got togeth- er again in the third period and then Bell teamed with MacDonald for another powerplay goal. With eight ticks left on the clock, Gibson let go with a hard shot as Macdonald collected another assist. The Generals three stars were: 1. Chad Oilfillan 2. Bill Hodge 3. Ted Hoffman. The Generals travelled to St. Marys last night and tonight host Lucan at 9 p.m. A new Shamrock rule this year has any player with four penal- ties ejected from the game. DORCHESTER -'While the hosting Dolphins were ready to play Friday night, their opponent, the Exeter Mohawks weren't. There was a lot of action around the Zurich peewee net as they took on Stephen Township and won during the ZMAA Mi- nor Hockey day on Saturday. Hoopers split games SEAFORTH - Jennifer Case net- ted 12 points but the South Huron District High S;:hool Panthers came up short against Seaforth in Huron Conference girls basketball action last Wednesday. Stephanie Pearson and Carrie Cleave played well defensively but the visitors were beaten 38-26. _Senior action saw the Panthers easily defeated Seaforth 45-20. Leading the offence was Angie Gould with 12 points while Stacey Thurman added eight.
