Home openers for peewees, midgets are big wins
Exeter bantam goalie Jason Lindenfield got some help from
one of his teammates in Wednesday's Shamrock League
game against visiting Ilderton.
EXETER - Last Wednesday
night hockey made its reappearance
after the summer break and for a
couple of Exeter Minor Hockey As-
sociation teams it was a great way
to start the season.
Coming off of wins in their sea-
son opener, both the Peewee Le-
gions and the Midget Generals easi-
ly 'handled visiting Ilderton at the
South Huron Recreation Centre.
The Bantam Legionnaires weren't
as fortunate however as they lost to
Itderton, dipping their Shamrock
League record to 1-1 while both the
peewees and midgets sit at 2-0.
Peewees dominate
It was 3-1 at the end of the first
period for the hosts as Scott Gilfil-
lan teamed with Matt Szabo and
Sean Guenther and then Jason
Grenier scored unassisted. Brian
Parsons got the third goal from
Greg Geoffrey and Jeff Campbell.
Big David Marshall scored a nat-
ural hat trick, three in a row in the
second period as assists on those
went to Geoffrey, Cam Dougall and
Tyler Bourne.
Scott Keys made it 7-3 on a back-
hander este teamed with Campbell
and Szabo and just 15 seconds lat-
er, Chad Monteith got the puck to
trickle over the goal line as Grenier
and Chad Dalrymple drew the as-
sists.
In the third period, Campbell
teamed with Szabo and Brian Hay-
man before Geoffrey scored from
Bourne and Marshall. It only took
35 seconds to go down the rink. as
Szabo connected from Campbell
and Dougall.
Rounding out the scoring late in
the game were Campbell and Mon-
teith while Szabo, Hayman and
Grenier assisted.
Scoring for Ilderton were Ashley
Windrew and Ryan Baynham each
with two goals and the other came
from Matt Aris.
(The Exeter peewees were busy
on the weekend, travelling to Thed-
ford on Friday and St. Marys on
Saturday. See this week's minor
hockey scoreboard for more de-
tails.)
Bantams beaten
It was a tough night for the Ban-
tam Legionnaires as they fell 5-2 to
Ilderton.
The visitors got on the board first
when Bob Grant walked right in on
Jason Lindenfield but just 31 sec-
onds later, Exeter's Jeff MacLean
teamed with Brian Richardson to
even the count.
Geoff Mayer gave the hosts a
one -goal lead late in the second but
it was 2-2 on Erick Fisher's goal.

ZURICH - Having the ice go into
their arena earlier this year, the Zu-
rich Minor Athletic Association
was able to host a Minor Hockey

It was the first of it's kind and
what it did was provide the local
teams to tuneup for the Western
Ontario Athletic Association sea-

soon.
The ZMAA will have 10 lama
this year in age groups from pre -
tyke to juvenile. There is no midget
team as several players have joined
the juvenile squad while those of
midget age are playing in Hensel'.

one day," said ZMAA president
Bud Markham.
The ice went into the Zurich Are-
