EXETER - There are people in
our communities that do a lot for
the environment by taking care of
• their lands or by being advocates
of the environment. Stewardship is
part of their ethics and their every-
day decisions, says the Ausable
Bayfield Conservation Authority.
Each year, the ABCA recognizes
some of these conservationists by
presenting them with Conservation
Awards. If you know of an indi-
vidual, family, group or organiza-
tion who' fits this description, you
can nominate them for an award.
"The; Conservation Awards were

ZURICH - Last Tuesday morn-
ing the grade 5 Buddies from St.
Boniface School, visited the Home
to meet their resident buddy for the
1993-94 school team. Cathy
Shantz, home adjuvant and Marga-
ret Suplat, class teacher matched
the students to the residents.
The children introduced them-
selves to the residents and filled
out interview sheets to get to know
the history of their buddy. The pro-
gram has been in place a number of
years and is enjoyed equally by rfs-
ident and student. They are able to
communicate with each other on a
one to one basis, which quite often
is missed by both parties when
dealing with their own families due
to distance or time slot.
Wednesday Afternoon Tea was
served by Verda Baechler, a resi-
dent of Maplewoods Apartment
and member of the Home Auxil-
iary,
Rev. Parsons, Exeter United
Church, conducted Thursday after-
noon Chapel Service. Fr. Elwyn
Morris, St Peter's Catholic Church,
St. Joseph celebrated Mass in the
absence of Fr. Wronski.
Thursday evening the residents
watched a National Geographic
movie entitled "Love Those
Trains". This was a documentary
on the Canadian Railway Lines.
An Open House will be held
Sunday, October 10 from 1-3 p.m.
for LLoyd and Esther Makins who
will celebrate their 68th wedding
anniversary that day. For those of
us struggling to maintain a 29th
birthday, it is hard to believe there
arc thr,.,e celebrating a wedding an-
niversary of that many years. Es-
ther and Lloyd shared 68 years as a
married couple and business part-
ners with their barber shop and
hairdressing salon in Bayfield. Cer-
tainly an example for many of us to
follow.
