in Drew's Hall, Exeter, on Wedneidat
evening last was a complete success.
The evening, though very unpropituons,
seemed to be suftieientfy favorable for
the gathering Of a large audience. Mr.
Car'swell's appearance:in Exeter is al-
ways a guarantee of %full house and. an -
appreciative and respectable audience.
At the appointed bour the Rev. Mr,
Holmes„ W. P. for the DivisiOu of the
Sons of Temperance of this place, was
called to the chair, and in a few well-
timed remarks, introduced the Subject
and the epeaker. Mr. Carswell, whpse
long, flowing ringlets stream down his
back and allo w , fro in beneath their curie,
the sharp, inlighing eyes 'to take a peep
out at objects around, need scarcely be
described, He is known from one end
of the Dominion to the other as the
" Canadian Gough." This tisesle, we
suppose, may be attributed to the Inn-
