Actually, he is concerned - about overconfidence. With few .teams presentingrauch of a challenge to The Hawks. line- ups_ as ,they breezed .through•pre- season play, he's worried the Man might expect to be as dominant' in the regular season. "We're going to be seeing teams we haven't seen before," said a cau- tious Pratt, pointing out that not only have they not faced some•of the other teams on the ice yet, those they have •played have probably been made up of experimental line - ups as coaches test out new players. Even so, the Hawks can boast of having "four pretty strong lines," :said Pratt. - Fans can watch out for Mark Liv, -ermorc, with whom Pratt said has been impressive in exhibition play.. Good things can also be expected from Brian Gardner and Jon Shie- del, be said. Friday evening's game in Hensall against the Wellesley Applejacks represented a full test of what Pratt was describing as about "90 percent eof+what we'll be using" it's down to the last two or three cuts," he said, but noted that those decisions will be the hardest to °-make, and those who don't make ithe team will likely take it hard. The final decision on who will be in net this season will also be made in the next few days. "We've got .three goalies right now and they're all playing well," said Pratt, describing that decision as particularly tough. The three are Kirk Durand, Brandon Ropy, and Chris Lynden. "One of them's going to be disap- pointed," he said. The final score of 13-3 -Friday was the result:of a goalfest for Atte Hawks, .who . actually racked .up more goals little first five minutes of.the.third:period than the Apple- jacks did -in the whole game. Two goals each were scored by Ray Cousineau, Mark Livermore, and _Scott Smale. Shayne Robin - .son, Steve Farquhar, Dave Dalrym- ple, Chad Gilfillan, Nick .Szabo, Nathan Blight, and Jamie Cornish each had a goal apiece. Nathan Burns, Livermore, .and :Jon Schiedel were .tops .in the assist .::category, with three points each. A brawl at.the end of the second ;:period also concerned Pratt, who •raid discipline will also be impor- Sant to.the.team's success in coming weeks. ""We've:got:to:ieeep under control rthd keepuaut!of:he penalty box," . he said. 5 -ng n t go:nrntotieed.Pratt said =upcoming practices will work or the team's endurance. "We're really stressing condition- ing right now," he said, but prom- ised "they'll be in shape." The Hawks season opens in Parkhill on October 4, with the home -opener hosting Alvinston on October 8. • 4Newks coach George ;Pratt (above left) is ;;cautiously optimistic about This team this year.
