South Huron U.C.W.
Fall Regional held
ZURICH - Zurich United Church Women hosted the U.C.W. fall region-
al meeting for the 11 participating churches of South Huron on Monday
evening, September 20 at 7 p.m. Regional President Janet Coward presid-
ed for the business portion of the meeting.
Sandra Rowe, Judith Parker and Margaret Hem introduced the worship
theme, "Our Lives are a Quilt"; based on the Biblical story of Dorcas, as
found in the book of Acts.
--Each U.C.W. local had been asked to create -a quilt block depicting
something meaningful in their community, and bring tate completed block
and its story to the regional meeting. These quilt blocks depicting church-
es, friendship, Jacob's ladder, strained glass windows, sun, surf and sand, a
beautiful rose and story of Elim, were incorporated into the worship.
The wall hanging that will be completed with these blocks will be dis-
played at the Huron -Perth Presbyterial U.C.W. annual meeting in Exeter,
in January, and at the London Conference U.C.W. annual meeting to be
held in Stratford in April of 1994. It is hoped that eventuallythe quilt will
hang in the Exeter Villa or South Huron Hospital, a gift from the United
Church Women of this area.
Ten beautiful full sized quilts were also on display and -their stories
shared. Several were signature quilts made as fundraisers for the Canadian
Red Cross during war time. Dolores Shapton told the story behind Exeter
United's famous "Tie Quilt". the ladies from Grand Cove Estates displayed
a lovely 16 patch, depicting the four seasons and the 12 months of the
year.
Special music for the program was provided by Peter and Linda Snell of
Exeter. Eighty-three women participated in this event that will be -hosted
by the Exeter U.C.W. in the fall of next year.
