VARNA - Members of the Stan
Lee Seniors celebrated their first
meeting with a nice pot luck supper
at the beautiful new pavilion at
Stanley Township Complex. Thir-
ty-five members enjoyed the eve-
ning and after supper they retired to
the Complex Council Chambers for
their meeting. Anna Keys chaired
the meeting. They all signed a get
well card to their absent secretary,
Margie Elliot and Marj Stirling
gave a reading on "Harvest".
After the minutes of the June
meeting were reviewed Anna Keys
turned the meeting over to Bob and
Marg Reid and Floyd McAsh.
It's great to have talent like they
have. Leona McBride played two
instruments at once which is quite
an accomplishment: the trumpet
and piano and Bill Pepper on his vi-
olin. They favoured them with sev-
eral numbers and everyone enjoyed
them very much.
Bob Reid gave an interesting talk
on their trip to Norway in June to a
wedding and passed pictures of the
country afterwards.
Anna Keys conducted the busi-
ness. She had several books on
things available for seniors in our
county. The Voice Magazine this
month wrote on issues about drugs
for seniors. There is a Drop -In Cen-
tre in Exeter where they can go for
help on things that come up and
bother them. There was an _invita-
tion from Zurich Seniors:to attend
their dinners. There is ameeting
about the.Senior Oames in Exeter
at 1O a.m:an September 21.
Country Line Dancing starts at
the . complex soon. $36 for 12
weeks. A vote on their meetings be-
ing the first Wednesday of each
month was passed. They then ad-
journed to the rec hall for eight
games of euchre. Winners were
Bob Stirling, Elva Peck, Ruth John-
ston
and Bob -Peck.
The community yard -. sale was
once again a success with many
buyers and browsers. Plan to join in
the next one on May 24 weekend in
'94!
The wind-up for the minor base-
ball was quite successful as usu-
al and very enjoyable for the
whole family. This really is one
of the most fun and most excit-
ing games for the team members
and onithiiai r r ,indul$11,osr ;,
up with a poi luck supper gives
everyone more social time to-
gether as families.
All players that haven't re-
turned sweaters would they
please do so as soon as possible.
Please return to your coaches.
Baseball is not completely
over as the Bantam girls have a
game against Cromarty Thurs-
day night at 7 p.m. This is a two
out of three fix the A Champion-
ship. The Dreamers follow at 9
p.m.
The community's sincere sym-
pathy goes out to the Camila
families on the passing of their
mother, grandmother and great-
grandmother. There were flow-
ers placed in the Goshen Church
in memory of Eileen.
The members of Varna and
Goshen churches are pleased to
welcome Miriam and Gary
Jones to the community. Follow-
ing the church service on Sun-
day in Goshen, drinks and cook-
ies were saved and a social time •
was held to meet Miriam and
Gary. Next Sunday, Scptemt cr
12 services will resume as usual
with our new minister taking the
order of service.
Monday, September 13 is the
regular Official Board 'Meeting
