Times Advocate, 1993-09-08, Page 19SHDHS settles Into another year of learning EXETER - The school year is South Huron District High School now into its second day for staff who are trying to adjust to the more and approximately 980 students at Structured routine that comes with MTO inviting industry to trials ABS truck braking being tested on Huron Park runways HURON PARK - In case you happened to see large trucks screeching up and down parts of the runways at Centralia airport on Tuesday or Wednesday this week, be rest assured that they're just test- ing brakes. The Ministry •esf ="transportation office at Huron Park is hosting the test of anti-lock braking systems on large trucks at . the airport in the hope to educate the industry to the value of the technology. Anti-lock braking systems, or ABS,. are a popular option on,pas- senger cars, .if not standard -equip- ment these days. But -the technolo- gy which uses electronics to 'regulate baraking force on each wheel to przvent lock-up and skid- ding, has not seen wide use on large trucks. David Ker at the ministry's office in Toronto said the airport is being used for the demonstration of the effectiveness of the braking sys- tems. Drivers can compare trucks with and without ABS. Even those not licensed to drive big rigs can give it a try on the runways. Ker said a similar test last year at- tracted about 400 interested indus- try observers, and again "we're in- viting industry to come out and watch". ABS is eventually expected to be- come mandatory for Ontario's trucking industry, although Ker said he expects American jurisdic- tions to pass legislation first. • 3 bedroom bungalow • full basement • forced air gas furnace • oak kitchen • maintenance free exterior • Air exchanger/ventilator • single car garage • main floor laundry • located on private court • occupancy late June Call Roger Dougall 235-1281 evening 235-0448 REDUCED FOR QUICK SALE Totally renovated two bedroom house on Ann St..
