OASA
Imperials take early
,exit from tcurnament
TAVISTOCK --A. few good moments spaced too far apart meant two
quick losses for the Exeter Chrysler Imperials at the Ontario Amateur
Softball Assoniationlaen's'C' tournament in Tavistock on the weekend.
Exeter dropped ;an.11-5 opener to Glencoe Friday night and then the
next afternoon came up short 4-3 to Lambeth.
Against Glencoe; Exeter pitcher Dan Heywood could not fight off the
heat as he gave up one run in the first inning, three in the second and three
more in the third.
Steve Cook came on in relief in the fourth and after loading the bases
managed to get three out to leave all three runners stranded.
There were a few bright spots including a Mike Neil solo homer pver the
centrefield fence in the second inning and Exeter centre fielder Sandy
Hyde had a second inning single and a.home run in the sixth.
Exeter's bats came to life in the bottom of the fifth as Mike Desjardine
and Jeremy Brock singled and both scored on Heywood's base hit. Hey-
wood came home on Darren Neil's triple.
Cook gave up two runs in the fifth and on the night had four strikeouts.
Lambeth 4. Exete( 3
Exeter hit the ball hard and Heywood pitched a good game but it just
wasn't enough against Lambeth on Saturday afternoon.
First baseman Kevin Lightfoot had a single and a double and Desjardinc
connected with a second inning homer. The Imperials scored one run in
the second and two in the seventh.
The Western Ontario Athletic Association final series continued last
night in Wiarton and the Irppe?ials will host Wiarton Thursday at 9 p.m.
Exeter Imperials' Mike Neil is congratulated after hitting a
home run at the OASA tournament in Tavistock against Glen-
coe Friday night.
