ZURICH - Sure_ihere were lots of beans and pork chops to eat -
that's expected ata haw .festival.
:But this yearihe2urich Bean Festival, the 28th Annual, had a few
.
surprises up it's sleeve:The car show was the biggest it's ever been,.
.adult.amusement-style-rides and a very good main stage show high
lighted the village's biggest event of the year.
In the morning, popular rock band Positively Stompin' entertainedt
but it was.an accapella quartet who stole the show just before the offi-
cial opening ceremonies.

Four young men fiom.Lomdon:called the %'Shadows put on a
wondetfuthshow-foraiargerrowd:Their brand of music showed the
divertdtycin.a:day.arhicinhas become very popular for not only those
who live in.she village; -but many from across Southwestern Ontario
as well.
The-.Tauich Bean Festival las almost become two separate attrac-
tions, one_in the business section .which is -focused around the busy
bean kitelumand the other at the.arena where the car show .is.
.AntiQueiand custom.carsand trucks and even a few vehicles which
leftsome.observers scratching their heads in bewilderment has made
theshow abig.hit.
As-usual;ahejks to kickoff the festivities were brought by lo-
cal politiciansibutthemage
o-cal:politicians..butthe:stage had a special guest in Agriculture Minis-
ter:EImer..Buchanan.

Buchanan said he was very pleased to be in Zurich and was glad
see the co-operation between the many groups which put on the Bean
Festival.
"This is a great example of how rural communities in Ontario can
work together to.put on a festival like this to raise money and have a
bit of fun and enjoy themselves."
It►ippp. a.Zurich .native whose wife Heather was the secretary of
thisyear's.festival, said he hasbeen to all 28 of the Zurich Bean Festi-
vals.
"I've.had a,great time here and over the years people have come
back to tell me it's a great time," said Klopp.
.Doug Erb, Chairman of this year's Bean Festival welcomed every
one to the festival and said it took a lot of hours from many volun
teers to put the day together.
Zurich Reeve :Bob Fisher welcomed everyone to the village and
thanked them all for the festivities.
Once again the festival attracted thousands of people who not only
lined up for the delicious bean and pork chops dinner but crowded the
streets to browse through the many displays.
I he bean festival -not only provides great entertaitunent and a day
the whole family .can enjoy but it helps several service groups includ-
ing the Zurich Minor Athletic Association to raise much-needed
t unds.
