Remember, crime doesn't pay, Crime Stoppers does. Harvest is peak stress time REGINA - The harvest season -may be a particularly stressful time forifarmers, says Barry Armstrong, manager of the Education and Pro- motion Branch, Occupational Health and Safety in Saskatchewan. -And suess causes accidents. '"We've kept records of.farnt.acci- dents over -the .list -1O years, and .have discovered a pattern: there are Blyth opens two-man dimwit at Garage Theatre By grin Lobb T -A start BLYTII - Billed as a psychologi- cal drama, Web, the most recent production to open at the Blyth Fes- tival Theatre, is indeed a dramatic look at one young -journalist's expe- rience with arms deals and under- world politics. The play revolves around 'two main characters, Francis Keiller, the young journalist played by Greg Spottiswood, and Michael, a mys- terious scientist who Keiller con- fronts about his underworld links. The confontation takes place around a kitchen table in a remote farm house. Keiller arrives to inter- view Michael, full of questions that demand answers, despite the fact that Michael's answers won't be given on demand. Through a twisted and intense dis- cussion the two stand off untill the Audience is left to wonder who is -mrgnipulatingwhom? ,.Web is set in the round in Blyth's alternative venue"The Garage Thea- tre". The small, but intimate, space allows for the audience to get close 'totheplay both physically and men- -tally,_as the action takes place only inches from their seats. MichaeiopensWeb alreadyseated on stage, this sets the mysterious tone of the play as actor Peter Smith, who is making his 1993 act- ing debut at the Festival, intrigues the audience with his concentration. Based on the a script that play- wright Rosalind Goldsmith original- ly wrote as a CBC Radio Drama, Web also debuts Toronto actor and director Elliott Smith. Smith contin- ually finds inovative ways to make use of the small acting space, and at the same time gives audience mem- bers on all sides equally good views. ' The only aspect slightly question- able was the use of a sound effect at specific points, which seemed somewhat soap operaish, but were apparently intended to indicate sus- penseful moments. Kudos to set designer Ange Zhang, who reums for his second season in Blyth, for his simple, yet effective, bare bones set design which lends itself to the whole dark, gritty, underworld theme. Web will be running untill August 128 tat the Garage Theatre. al ►4 Elliott Smith (left) and Peter Smith in the Blyth Festival's Web. ►►Z2ZZZZZZZZZ2zZZ:zzZZZZYZZZZZZZYYZZ:Y2YZYZY:XZY SI tl • ii • '01 more fatalities in areas that are ex- periencing bad weather at harvest time," says Armstrong.
