September Is National Arthritis Month. It Is very im-
portant for arthritis sufferers to become very knowl-
edgeable about the disease. There are many -alter-
nate therapies" around from diets and copper
devices to acupressure and acupuncture. Most of
these are unproven. Talk to your doctor about these therapies. Joining
an arthritis support group Is also very helpful.
The Hershey Medical Centre In Pennsylvania studied cesarean births in
. three world areas. Of all births, cesarean sections are performed 24%
of the time In the U.S.; 1216 in Europe and 796 in Japan.
Carbon monoxide... that poisonous gas in car exhausts, is also found in
cigarette smoke. This gas reduces the blood's ability to bind to oxygen
to feed vltal.orgens.
Disturbing facts: smoking is most common in males aged 20-44; 32%
are daily smokers. For females, 20% between 15-19 smoke regularly
(12% of males in the same age range smoke).
As pharmacists, we always encourage your understanding of the medi-
cations you are taking. Part of that understanding comes from reading
the labels on non -prescriptions medications. Sometimes, the lettering
on these labels is very small and difficult to read. California has a law
on the books forcing manufacturers to make these labels more reada-
ble. Great idea!
