Blue Water Rest Home
residents planning trip
to Springbank Park
- ZURICH - Everyone had a great
time at Nelson Howe's 85 Birthday
Party on Sunday afternoon in the
auditorium of Blue Water Rest
Home. For many years Nelson
played fiddle with the Brussels
Pipe Band and they remembered
his big day by attending with seven
pipers, two kettle drums and a base
drum.
The Home rang with the sounds
of music. Fred Harburn and Bill Ir-
vine joined Nelson with their fid-
dles and serenaded the residents
and visitors. Approximately 75-100
people attended the event and en-
joyed the cake and ice cream which
was served by Home Auxiliary
members Mary Lou Gingerich and_
}il Ila Gascho. Twonty,five family
tiettepitters joined NBlsdn that eve-
. iiing at his daughter, Carol Finlay -
son's home in lijxeter for a family
dinner.

Caven Presbyterian Church, Hen-
sall/Exeter conducted Thursday af-
temoor ipel Service. Fr. Matthi-
as Wro ., St. Boniface Church,
Zurich celebrated Mass.
Many residents were escorted by
family members to the Zurich Bean
Festival on Saturday. The lucky
winner of the appliqued Dresden
plate quilt made the Home Auxil-
iary was Dorothy Coombs of Kin-
cardine. Dorothy claims she attends
the Bean Festival on a regular basis
and this is the fust time she has
ever won anything anywhere. Dor-
othy doesn't have a quilt and she
bought her ticket the day of the fes-
tival. Congratulations Dorothy,
have a warm winter!
Sharon Robinson, of London,
was the winner of the side chair
draw. Sharon is the' daughter of
Clarence Smillie, a B.W.R.H:
Apartment resident who refinished
the chair and donated it to the rest
home for the draw. This is the sec-
ond time Clarence has donated one
of his works of art. Just a stroke of
good luck that his daughter won!
The residents look forward to a
trip to Springbank Park and Story
Book Gardens on August 31.
Our condolences to the family of
the late Alma Blanche Prance who
passed away at B.WR.H. on Au-
gust 24. Alma lived at Grand Bend
before coming to the home one
year ago.
Our condolences to the familyof
the late Norma Cathryn Parkins
who passed away at B.WR.H. on
August 25. Norma was a long time
resident of Zurich and had resided
at the home the past 11 years. She
will be missed dearly by her hus-
band Jim who resides at B.WJUL
Apartments.

Morning prayer service held

SAiNTSBURY - St. Patrick's
held Morning prayer service at 8:30
a.m. last Sunday. Rev. Stephen Em-
ery talked about King David, the
23rd Psalm and how we are the
sheep and God is our shepherd.
Next Sunday, St. Patrick's will
hold morning prayer at 8:30 a.m.
The scripture readings are to be Ex-
odus 19:16-24, Romans 13:1-10,
Responsive Reading Psalm 115:1-
11, The Holy Gospel Matthew
18:15-20.
Last Wednesday 19 swimmers
and onlookers met at the Davis'.
St. Patrick's September A.C.W.
will meet at the Parish Hall Sep-
tember 21 at 8 p.m.
Last Friday Ray and Beverley
Wheeler, ofLLondon, were dinner
guests with the Davis's. Saturday,
the MacGillivray's, the Davis fami-
ly, Ralph, Joyce and Darren Simp-
son of London were supper guests.
Harley and Michael were celebrat-
ing birthdays.

niversary dinner for Fred and Pat
Dobbs at Trivitt Memorial Church,

GRANTON - The Bakker family
picnic was hold at the Granton
Park with 63 in auendance on Sat-
urday, August 22.
Leonard Thacker was honoured
by his family at an open house on
Sunday, held at Woodham United
Church on the occasion of his 80th
birthday.
Paul, David, Joel and Rachael
Emery and their mother Joan of
Waterloo and Amber Bedford of
Waterford spent the weekend with
their grandparents and Joan's par-
ents Percy and Olive Hodgins and
attended the St. Thomas' Anglican
Church on Sunday morning.
Florence and Charlie McRobert
and Marion and Bill Thomson re-
cently spent a few weeks on a va-
cation to the Western provinces.
W.I. Bus trip
The Granton Women's Institute
and friends enjoyed a bus trip on
Wednesday, August 25 to Tilison-
burg and Port Dover. Following
dinner at the Erie Beach Hotel the
group attended the matinee Speak
of the Devil, at the Lighthouse
Theater.
Sunday August 29, Cheryl and
Bob Martin hosted an 87th birth-
day picnic for their grandfather
Bill Bannister of Parkhill. Among
the many well wishers present
were his wife Olive, and his two
daughters Bea and Wilf Bowman
of Exeter.
At the St. Thomas' Anglican
Church on Sunday Rev. Stephen
Emery led the service of morning
prayer and again based his mes-
sage on Psalm 23.

At .the closing exercises on Fri-
day the children sang the songs
they had learned. April Bryan and .
Normalie Voakes sang "His Eye is
on the Sparrow". A collection "A
Gift of Love" was received. It was
a donation of non -perishables for
the food bank in London.
