LUCAN - A fifth inning home
run by rightfiekler Darren Neil
made a big difference friday night
as the Exeter Chrysler Imperials
beat Lambeth 4-3 in Ontario Ama-
teur Softball Association playoff
action.
The -win gives the Imperials the
lead in the best -of -three OASA
Men's 'C' series whiah will continue
this week. (As of presstime, a time
had not yet been decided.)
If they win, F,xetcr will head to
Tavistock on August 27-29 for the
16 -team OASA tournament which
will also feature league rivals
Mitchell Mets and Fullerton A's.
"We'll be representative," said
Exeter coach Fred Cook. "There are
pretty good teams there. It will be a
tough tournament but we're playing
well right now."
Friday, visiting Lambeth. got on
the board early Friday night as they
plated a run in the . first inning.
'However the Exeter defense came
up big in the opening frame as a
double play stopped more runs
helm scoring.
With' -none out, a Dan Heywhed
-wild pitch got past catcher -Graham
Nosbitt but he managed to chase
down the loose ball and toss it to
'Heywood to get Walt Gough.
Heywood then tossed `down to
third to get the double play. A
ground out to shortstop Rod John-
ston ended what could have been a
big inning for Lambeth.
Down by a run, the Imperials got
one back in the third when 'Kevin
Lightfoot was safe on a fielders'
choice, he stole second and scored
on Heywood's double.
it was 2-1 for Lambeth after four
innings on a triple and a Scott Stort-
ford rbi single. Stafford had a good
game at the plate as he made the
game close with a sixth inning
homer over the left field fence.

" He's (Neil) a good young ball
player. We've got some good young
talent," said Cook.
On the mounds. Heywood: Who
has done a good job in the starting
pitchers' role this season, gave up
five hits in the seven inning contest
while walking one and striking out
eight.
League play: Exeter has con-
cluded it's South Perth Men's Fast -
ball League record with an 8-17
record which placed them in ninth
out of 14 teams.
For the past two years, Exeter has
made it to the 'A' final, losing both
times.
"You always want to finish in the
'A' but I think we did fairly well.
Last time we were in the 'B' we
won it," said Cook.
He said the Imperials will prob-
ably enter into a round-robin
playoff format with the other four
teams.
The Imperials are also in the
midst of the Western Ontario Ath-
letic Association playoffs with Clif-
ford.
